Pathetic BBC coverage

Apparently "hundreds" of football fans have walked to the Brighton Centre (someone needs maths lessons)... and the only picture we saw of it had 2 people and a placard, followed by the reporter on an empty beach. Useless.

Stadium campaign taken to Labour

Planning permission for the stadium was first applied for in 2001
Brighton and Hove Albion football fans marched through the city on Monday to make Labour politicians aware of their fight for a new stadium.
The Labour Party's annual conference is taking place at the Brighton Centre this week.

A fans' spokesman said they wanted to make politicians aware of the campaign in a "humorous, witty, colourful and entirely peaceful manner".

John Prescott is due to decide whether Brighton can build a ground at Falmer.

Inquiry to reopen

The club has been without a permanent home since the Goldstone Ground closed in 1997 and currently plays home matches at the Withdean Stadium - an athletics stadium with a capacity of about 7,000.

It wants to build a 22,000 capacity stadium close to the city's two universities at Falmer.

A lengthy public inquiry has been held into whether the scheme should go ahead, with some local residents objecting to the plans.

It will be re-opened in January when a decision is expected.

Protesters were marching from Madeira Drive, to the Brighton Centre, and then returning to Madeira Drive on Monday.

Last time fans were on the seafront it was to celebrate promotion

Organisers urged fans of other football teams to join them on the march, saying the campaign is a major community issue which affects all football supporters.

Paul Samrah, chairman of the Falmer For All Campaign, said: "For a city that has hosted party political conferences for decades not to have a stadium is simply unacceptable.

"Every great city needs a stadium - it is vital for the community and for Brighton and Hove Albion."

The march was being stewarded by the club and supervised by the police.

I had the ITV News channel on. There was one of their reporters on the roof of the Metropole (I think). Chants of "we want our stadium, we want our stadium" could clearly be heard.

The BBC reporter did that bit of filming at 16:15 before many people got there, I know because I was there (although not in it luckily for you lot).

Leaving Brighton after the march I put SCR on...what a crap station that is! I was listening to the 8 o/c news and there wasn't a single mention of what had just taken place-probably because it was mainly Radio Solent using the Sussex frequencies:angry:

Then they had some guy on promoting his book (a Manc of the City type I think he was), supposedly a knowledgable football fan who writes for the Independent. He was talking about the plight of lower division and 'small' clubs, their lack of money and used Bury as an example of fans fighting to save their club. Again, a perfect opportunity for a link to us considering how many of us sent them a tenner each during their buy a seat campaign. He then went on to talk about bucket collections in this, the richest period in football's history. Again, a perfect opportunity for fuckwit presenter to give us a mention but no!

Well what about us then you SCR twat Robin fuckwit Day? You had a perfect opportunity to link it to the evening's events but you were too busy telling us that you are a ManUre fan.:salute: :salute: Piss poor radio presenting-a ready made story set up by some Manc promoting his book and our 'local radio station' failed miserably.

Chances are that earlier they may have covered the event but I was busy lugging one of my banners along the seafront to hear it!

i saw that too, it was quality, It seemed to me that because of all the noise he could not continue the interview about Gordon Brown because he was being totally drowned out.
He then acknowledged the Brighton fans and told the studio what it was all about:clap2:

I live in Canterbury and have a different view of the TV coverage.

On BBC South East at 6.30 yesterday evening The March was the main item. I thought they covered it well and for much longer than I expected.

They had a reporter with the marchers and another on the balcony of the Centre. Great footage looking down from there.

Interview with Ivor Caplin on the balcony - he said all the right things and got in a real dig at Lewes District Council and their delaying tactics.

On Meridian there was a much shorter piece in the sports news. As they are on earlier they probably didn't have time for better coverage. Tonight, hopefully.

I wasn't interviewed by anyone but got home to find an email telling me I was on the BBC News - "standing around wearing a camera and adjusting your specs". What an alluring image that conjures up. Not!
