Currently reading a book called the outsider - the history of goalkeepers.

A wonderful read. Came out just recently.

The Outsider: A History of the Goalkeeper: Amazon.co.uk: Jonathan Wilson: Books

One of the keepers it featured is Pat Jennings. Talking about his unconventional style and the size of his hands.

Take a look a the video at 10 seconds. Amazing one handed collection of a cross!

He was one of the best. I thought the back peddling save by The Pole in Goal at Blackburn the other night, was pretty special too.

It's easy to catch the ball one handed, when one hand envelops the whole ball.

As said before my first experience of football was mid 70's Highbury.

Pat Jennings still seemed like a dwarf compared to Willie Young.

As an aside, my favourite book as a kid was one called "Goalkeepers are Different" by Brian Glanville. Really got across the life of a goalkeeper/footballer in that era, the 60s/70s. Would recommend it to any football fan if you can find it.

One of the best from a great era of goalkeepers - Shilton, Jennings, Clemence, Corrigan, Banks... Why can't we produce good goalies in this country anymore? Think of some of the awful ones that have played for England in recent years...

My favourite keeper ever. Take note of his cool manner after making a save rather than todays keepers who yell & scream at their defenders for letting someone get a shot in. Pat loved his work.
