Sent mine, my wife's and my daughters off at the same time, got mine and my daughters back at the same time within 10 days, however we've still not got my wife's, they asked for further documents to prove her name change (from her maiden name) that was 20+ years ago and she's had 2 passports since then !

Just renewed mine online. Had an issue with the photograph (I have naturally hooded eyes which register as closed on automatic cameras) but once I explained that got my new passport back in a week. So unusual to compliment a government service!

On a recommendation we did ours through the Post Office at St James St. Kemp Town.
Super easy took our old passports in, they took our photos on an IPad, and posted passports for us. Small premium for service but well worth it.
In and out within ten minutes. Received new passports within 10 days receiving regular updates on progress.

Has anyone done an online passport renewal recently? Gov website is saying ten weeks, I presume that’s right but would be interested to know if anyone has been through the process. I’m heading abroad mid September and am resigned to trying to pay for an urgent renewal in Victoria but thought I would check with the NSC hive mind before I press the button on that.
Yes it was very easy and very quick I took a selfie with my phone sent it off and received new one after about 3 weeks what I liked was they updated the progress at every stage very efficient.

Did mine end of June 6 days from submitting the renewal online to the new passport being received. Very impressed with the service.

My UK passport took 3 weeks. My Irish one is taking ages to come back.

I was sort of hoping my UK one was gonna be in the old " James Bond " format passport. Very disappointed it wasn't

Good to hear this is sorted out this year. At the weekend we were laughing at the dinner table about my day of hell is Newport last year trying to get one for my daughter after her twin sister’s had arrived months earlier. What a day that was. Not a place I would recommend tbh. I think it took 4-5 months last year. Got passport a few days before travelling to france.

Did the whole family last month, absolute piece of piss including 1 x name change and 1 x dodgy photo due to a medical condition. Whole lot done in a couple of weeks.

How soon is now?
We've just renewed my sons and it was back in 6 days. Although we did lose 6 months on his previous one.
It's a bit of a fucker that you need 6 months validity to travel, and therefore you ideally need to renew it 6 months early ifyou want to get awy, but they don't add 6 months on

Four weeks from posting the old one to receiving the new one in Australia.

I was actually pretty impressed👍

8 days for online application. Very quick especially as I sent the old one back with a 2nd class stamp.
Nice blue but not worth £110 billion a year.

Applied online on the Thursday, instructed to send expired on the Friday, received new passport the following Tuesday. Painless experience - just a shame it doesn't offer the same privileges as the old one.

My daughter has just left the Post Office employment.

I had mine renewed at the PO before she left, it took 10 days.
I have just asked her how long for a lapsed passport, she asked ex colleagues still at the PO , they reckon 4-6weeks, but you can get it fast tracked if you contact the passport office.

You still get the ‘or rib Le black one, and not the really splendid maroon one though.
my other half s had lapsed 2 years ago only took a week from online application to receipt
