Just another moderately-talented player just passing through. Are you his dad or agent or sonwthing? :moo:

We are Brighton, not Chelsea or Man City, and Gross's stats are better than those of club legend Jimmy Case. Along with Bruno, Murray and Dunk he has been the face of the Albion in the Premier League. He will go down in history as one of the best- value signings the club has ever made, and his contribution cannot be under-estimated.

In terms of his future at the club his time may be up. He is the wrong side of 30, he was never blessed with pace, he isn't going to get any quicker and Mac seems to be able to deliver set pieces whilst being more of a goal threat.

I see him leaving us in the summer. Not because he a spent player with nothing to offer but just because the squad needs to evolve and his departure so someone with more longevity can come in for that position seems sensible. No point signing him up to another contract if his game time is just going to become more and more limited. To step forward we need to replace him with someone who combines his set piece/crossing ability with some more energy and pace in the midfield.

Agreed as with Davy P at the end of last season.

Sorry to see them both go, but inevitable nonetheless.

Think he is staying until the summer at least. Then it is probably up to him, could see the club offer him a new one or two year contract but this is probably the last chance for him if he wants to play in a top club (any Bundesliga aside for Bayern and Dortmund should want him) in Germany or go to some warmer country for another adventure.

Yes time and the collection of young Brighton midfielders are catching up with him but its not that long ago he was part of the big turnaround last season doing a great job next to Bissouma in midfield.

No, I really think we’ll take a fee in January. I think he wants a new challenge, just a hunch.

We have Alzate, Moder & Mac Allister who are pretty similar.

Still in Brighton
What a signing and what a player he has been for the Albion. And he still has something to contribute as part of a squad.

But we were quicker in transition yesterday without him starting and I've felt he is less central to our plans this season.

Might we be seeing the end of his time at the Albion? Contract expires in the Summer, could start looking in January and I can't see us breaking the bank to keep him given the number of players competing for the midfield roles.

I have loved watching Pascal play. What a talent. Thanks for all those Gross Turns.

Bit rude. No mark bloke on the internet decides PL footballer is past it and should be moved on. And a player who has contributed massively to our success and will always be remembered for his Gross Turn. I do hope someone prints the OP and pins it to the dressing room wall.

His Newcastle goal kept us up a couple of seasons ago.

Not the quickest by any stretch, but lovely skills with the dead ball, the Turns and footballing intelligence has kept him firmly in the toughest league in the world. His time might be up in the summer but he'll always be fondly remembered by those of us who actually support the club.

A great player for the club. Without him assisting Murray in our first PL season we would not be where we are today.

A fantastic signing and a cult hero as another poster rightly said.

Those Cruyff turns are a joy to behold. To paraphrase Chris Waddle - you only need one trick to make it as a footballer.

You're right on assists, but it's also worth mentioning the goals he scored himself, especially in our first PL season, most of which were from open play. He got 7 that season and, IIRC, all bar one was from open play.
It's also worth noting that those goals from open play have dried up, and this is why I suspect we won't renew his contract.
None of that distracts from him being an impeccable servant and one of our best players while in the PL -- so far.

And we all moan at junior and call him a no nothing troll.

I do sometimes wonder if you really do support Brighton, as the mask seems to be slipping more and more of late...!

I just try and counteract the absurd hyperbole on here occasionally. Plenty of posters on here been accusing him of having a slower turning circle than the QE2 and hoping he never wears the stripes again. While post #9 accredits the player with pretty much single-handedly keeping us in the EPL for at least 2 of our 5 seasons. Both extremes are equally ludicrous POVs. But carry on slating somebody who prefers to take the middle ground and do nothing worse than point out the bleeding obvious stupidity at both extremes of the spectrum :dunce:

One of only 10 players to be solely in the 'does it all' box

xA sifts creative talent, but it omits all that pre dates the attempt. Here's the non shot xG the assister eats up carrying the ball & then passing it to the chance taker.
Mount & Foden hurt you both running & passing

If you think your post is a middle ground you have a very warped view.

I think it's too early to be writing him off, but equally in Mwepu it looks like we have finally found a younger, quicker, more energetic replacement. Whilst Potter had been playing Gross quite wide, Hughton had him central, bursting into the box, taking shots and scoring the odd goal, and this seems to be the role that Mwepu is taking on, a role that has been sorely lacking for some time.

I don't think your "average player" comment was fair for someone who has consistently been among the top assist providers in the Premier League, nor do I see comments like that as "middle ground", just seemed deliberately negative...
