Don't get me wrong, I want the albion to win every game and win the cup - but I have concerns re getting through to play Newcastle:

We'll be playing on the Sat evening and Palace won't have a game that weekend and will be fresher for our meeting on Tues. I'm sure our 3 games in 7 days affected the players for the home game and they looked lethargical. It also cost us points vs Leeds (giving them a 2 goal head start) IMO. It's mental as well as physical - getting yourself up for a big game takes a lot mentally. I just don't want any advantage to Palace (again) for this game - however small you may feel it is...

Also we'll risk more injuries ahead of a crucial part of the league season.

Also we may have to play kids vs Newcastle to erradicate point 1 on tele and that could look bad on us - especially if they get tonked.

Plus we've already played 2 prem teams in a cup this yr at the amex and although i'm delighted with the Newcastle draw, if we did lose tonight, having played Sunderland and Liverpool already it softens the blow of a big prem team.

The Newcastle game may even put our players in the shop window again just before the window closes and draw some big clubs' attention to them..?!

On the plus side we get to play a big game on TV and get more money and have a chance to prove our worth...

So am I being too negative or does anyone feel the same? :albion:

31/1/2012 is all that matters.

We aren't realistically going up or down this season, we've done well out of the cups. The blip is "we scored 3, they scored 1" which must be avenged!

I agree revenge would be nice. But I think finishing above them is bigger. Even if they beat us again yet we still finish above them it's sort of even bragging rights. If you stepped back and looked at it, the best team is decided over 46 games - not 2 - and if we finish above them that will be testiment to our season...

negative. its all about the big games atm! were going to have 30,000 seats to fill soon! we need as many people interested in the albion as possible. hopefully we do wrexham and then do newcastle and then get man utd/liverpool/chelsea/arsenal at home!

although it might sound strange, for this season ONLY i dont really care about the up and coming derby game as the future for our football club is so bright and we will have many victorys over the nigels at later dates!

Hold on. If we get through, the players will be asked to play two games of football (28th) and (31st) in ten days as opposed to one game in ten days. How is that going to be too taxing for them?

I'm kind of with you there. Can't help worrying about injuries on a heavy or part frozen pitch. Saturday off before the Palace game wouldn't go amiss either.

And if we have to go out to anyone, Wrexham is not a bad choice at all.

But this is now, when I'm up there in freezing cold Wales, it'll be a different story and the only acceptable outcome will be an Albion win!

Lets hope that someone takes the time to explain to Poyet that Palace is actually quite an important game this time around, certainly more important than poxy little southampton.

Just to add to that, if we were knocked out the cup by anyone, I'd like it to be Wrexham as they need the cash that the Newcastle money will bring. although I will still be cheering and shouting for the Albion tonight.

I know what you mean Sheebo, I will be looking at positives whatever the result. Win and I'll be looking forward to Newcastle, lose and I'll be happy the players can concentrate on Palace.

Don't suppose there's any chance of Palace being scheduled a league fixture for that weekend against someone who's already out the cup? Or am I thinking in league one tin pot terms here...!?

No it's 2 games in 74 hours - gorget the ten days bit. I agree footballers should be able to do it no problem - just look at our March last year! Ordinarily it wouldn't bother me one bit. But this is Palace - Any advantage to them pre match, however small, is a bad thing...! I honestly believe the 3 games in 7 days thing had a big say in the first match - and the Leeds match being played 48hrs after Liverpool for that matter. It def cost us SOME points IMO...

B&HA aren't going to be promoted or relegated this season so there's every reason to go for a long F.A. Cup run. Even if it ends in the Fourth Round there'll be a big match and big payday against that mob, but with a fair number of the injured payers back to fitness for the visit of newcastle it could easily be the biggest match, and greatest day, at The Amex to date. I will be disappointed if Gus Poyet doesn't have the team up for the Wrexham match and I'm hoping for a B&HA win in normal time.

Four words that mean getting through in the Cup is incredibly important. HALF A MILLION POUNDS!That is the sort of money that some people have been advocating letting some of our better players leave for. I desperately want to beat Palace but we are only talking about 2 games in a week. It shouldnt make any difference. Palace will be distracted by their Cup exploits anyway.

Honestly we sound like a bunch of pussies claiming the players can handle a game on a Saturday then a Tuesday.

It's not that they can't handle it, it's about being in the best condition possible for the Tuesday night. Newcastle would give us the run around for plenty of the game if we do get through and with our injury/disciplinary strike rate at the moment chances are we'd lose a player or two as well

How does that compare with 'the good old days' when matches were played on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and then the return of the Friday fixture on Easter Monday. Also even before that there was a game on Christmas Day morning and then another on Boxing Day, if Christmas was a Monday or Tuesday there would have been 1 on the previous Saturday.
