Parking tickets today

Did anyone receive a parking ticket during the match this afternoon. Coming down the Woodingdean road on my bike before the match a bunch of traffic wardens were jumping about, creaming themselves, taking pictures and dishing out tickets to those cars parked in the laybys along the side of the road. What are the rules regarding match day parking? There are no visible signs indicating no parking or suspension of parking. Some of the cars could belong to walkers who were not attending the football.

There have to be lines and signs; they can't ticket without lines/signs unless someone is double parked or blocking a dropped kerb. I think only the Police can ticket for 'obstruction' as there's no such Council contravention.

Maybe these cars were actually on a grass verge next to double/single yellows? That's a PCN as yellow lines are effective up to the property boundaries.

If anyone EVER gets a Council ticket then appeal it through ALL stages, not just the first appeal - even if you've been caught bang to rights. Always get the help of pepipoo.com forums as most people can get off most tickets. If anyone ever gets a private 'ticket' (parking charge notice, passing itself off as a penalty charge notice) they are fake so always ignore them of course - hope all Albion fans know that!

There are signs coming down from Woodingdean (and presumably up towards Woodingdean as well) which are extremely clear that say no parking at the side of the road.

I'm afraid there plenty of police signs explaining why you can't park anywhere down the Falmer Road on the grass verges and lay-bys as it is an offence

Alternatively respect the fact you have responsibilities and stop weaselling your way through life at the cost of others?

Rubbish - unless you're causing an obstruction or parked dangerously then parking restrictions are nothing but money collection services for the council. Besides, a lot of so called "valid" tickets are in fact either incorrectly issued or the council has no authority to issue at all. I got a ticket in Hove that most people would call "bang to rights". I thought I'd parked in a P&D space when in fact it was a residents space. Won the appeal hands down but only after a lot of bullying tactics from the council. Councils purposely make signage difficult to understand and thankfully the magistrate in my case agreed with me a ordered the council to re-sign the street involved.

This. A parking free for all would cause more chaos than the parking in Bennets field for the first 4 home games (allegedly). Don't knowingly illegally park and if you do, don't wasted public money constantly appealing. Not sure if they do or not but anyone who appeals against a legitimate parking penalty should be made to pay costs including the wasted time of the local authority upto any court case!!!!

I appeal any parking ticket given to anybody in my famiily and pay virtually none. Even the council if you chose to take it to a tribunal usually back down. Well Worthing do any rate but I am not sure about Brighton.

Oh my days, get off your high horse mate. So your Mr law abider are you? It must be nice to never wrong anyone, play by the rules at all times, proberly some middle class conservative voting snob who is so far up his own arse that he cant see daylight.

Get a grip, people are going to park near the stadium if they can and thats me included and there's no wrong in that if you can get a space that doesnt block someones house, doesnt block traffic and doesnt hold people up then whats the problem.

As for your weaselling through life comment, your talking total utter nonsense and just shows how ridiculous you really are, it's a fcuking lay-by, he's not trying to get incapacity benefit and a free parking space due to an old football injury!

The main thrust of my response is the comment about appealing even if "bang to rights." Parking ticket enforcement is also about traffic management and regulation as well as obstruction etc. The council do make money from it, but the primary reason in my opinion is control and regulation. I have no issue with folk appealing to an incorrectly issued ticket or an overzealous parking inspector but I do object to sadoes who shirk their responsibilities and push and push and push the council on some minor or spurious technicality.

Be a man, face up to your responsibilities. Stop being a weasel.

I was not responding specifically to the lay-by, my reply was to appealing ANY ticket. The clue was in the very specific text I quoted in my response.

The City Council are, of course, also monitoring the football club's compliance with the planning conditions for the stadium. This includes the Transport Management Plan, which no doubt commits the Club to ensuring that all parking near the ground, including on-street parking, is monitored and controlled. The people who have most experience of monitoring parking are the Parking Wardens. It may be that all these wardens were doing was collecting information and that there is no intention to do anything other than analyse it and check out the extent to which actual levels of on-street parking is meeting the requirements of the planning permission.

If anyone is found to be parking where they shouldn't, they may not be fined. The Club may well have difficulties, though.

It would help the club's application to expand to 30,000 no end if everyone parked legally and courteously - even if you don't give a toss about parking reg's, do your bit for the club.

EDIT - basically what Lord B said. Sorry, on Tapatalk and a lot slower to reply!
