Personally I find pathetic yes-men worse.
A Council says a person has to pay a fine because one of their outsourced 'NSL' (private company) weasel staff issued a PCN.
Said weasel staff member appears to have made a rash decision, could it be because he/she is targetted to issue a certain amount per day or face disciplinary action?
The PCN appears to be unfair but the good news is there is a statutory appeals procedure available for free to the OP, with an independent adjudicator at the end.
Posters on here point out the fact that most people win PCN appeals...
...but you honestly think because the Council says the fine should be paid that the people should just roll over and pay up? Really?

Yes. I do. It's not about rolling over. It's about having a basic understanding that there is a need for parking regulation and abiding by it. I have no issue with people challenging incorrectly applied tickets (and from personal experience neither do the council) but I have a major issue with the types who will challenge any ticket just for the sake of it. If you don't like it f*** off out of Brighton or don't f***ing visit. If you want to fight a fight choose something more worthy....and I don't mean suing the council because you tripped over a curb stone. Take responsibility for your own actions so if you park illegally cough up. Every time you challenge you're costing tax payers money, money that could be better spent.
You think you're some sort of self-styled people's champion; reality is youre an obsessed drain on Brighton tax payers.

Got a parking ticket in Burgess Hill once, appealed on the grounds that the 'No Parking Between xx and xx' was completely obscured by ivy and there were no signs in immediate sight. Appealed, the council weren't interested. Luck of the draw, I suppose.

Nope, that's par for the course. Most Councils refuse most informal appeals because they know plenty of people will believe their rejection letter as it's on headed notepaper, written in legalese (template paragraphs of course) and makes the bribe of the discounted fine seem like some sort of bargain. It's a game of bluff to make the majority of people just pay them some money, even where there's a good case the answer is almost invariably no at first along with the dangled carrot 'here's what you could have paid, 50% off, last chance!'.
You would almost certainly have won at the formal appeal stage or at adjudication.

I have only owned a car for a short period of my life and I got about 5 tickets and had my car towed twice. I took 4 tickets and one tow on the chin as it was my own personal fuckwittery at fault. One ticket was in my opinion over zealous and is documented earlier in this thread. One of the tows was due to a bay being temporarily suspended after I'd parked in it. I'm far from perfect, but, I know when I have made a mistake and I know my responsibilities. Due to the way Brighton council dealt with me the same can be said for them.
PS I have good reason to dislike parking in Brighton as well since I cannot park outside my house and have to pay to park someway down the road due to the George Street regulations. But, I accept it.
On reflection I sincerely apologise for swearing. Uncalled for. But my sentiment still stands. And no I don't work for the council.

Or even funnier, a private clamper about to lose his job? No apology offered whatsoever to any private clamper on here, it's always been a criminal 'job' for violent knuckle draggers only - without exception - and the clamping ban on October 1st can't come soon enough!
