On Saturday I went to meet an old work friend at the Marina. I was aware of the two hour parking rule.

I arrived just after midday and was out with a couple of minutes or so to spare just gone 14.00

Today, a notice arrives claiming I entered the car park at 11.08, and hour earlier than I did. This is a blatant lie. It says I parked for 2 hours 57 minutes and not 1 hour 57 minutes.

So this is not just a case of wanting to get off a fine. This is a case of a false accusation being made. What to do ?

Yours,

Very Miffed of Queen's Park.

Don't you get four hours free parking at the Marina Car Park (the one above the cinema)? You should just pay the fine imho for the shame of being so close and yet so far from ample free parking time.

I didn't know that. Anyway, don't derail the thread. I'm in a rare bad mood. Their picture shows my car arriving at 11.08. That is not correct. I even have the WhatsApp that shows me telling my friend I am leaving my house. The time is 11.48. They then send me a message saying they are there, to which I reply to at 12.11 saying 'I'm here'.

So I don't know what's going on.

If you have a Google account, have a look at your timeline on Google maps, it's quite accurate time wise.

Yes, I've taken a look. It has me arriving at the Marina at 12.12

All is in sync with my claims.

Presumably this was past Asda and in around the flats ? The multi-storey has a notional 4 hour limit, is free and the 4 hours isn‘t enforced anyway. The Asda car park is monitored for length of stay also.

Anyway https://www.popla.co.uk/ is your friend here……

I forgot about the main car park and parked in the superstore one. It is a two hour limit. But the Parking Eye cam shows 11:08 and not 12:08

Think it’s normal to complain in the store first - if it’s a clock error they’ll already know about it from others and will cancel it. If not, the pursue via POPLA (or at least using the guidelines they suggest)

It seems likely that their entry clock is set to GMT. Is it convenient for you to go to the carpark and verify that? If it's true then you will have real-time evidence. You might want to call the police as soon as you have the evidence so that they can attend, verify the facts and open a case of fraud.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I spoke to the store manager who said to bring it in and they will cancel it. I said thank you, but raised a wider issue about the clock timings. I'll go over there tomorrow.

This all sounds impossible, but obviously true.
If the clock is incorrect then it means anyone staying for 61 minutes or more will be getting tickets, as it will show as 121 minutes. My guess is most Asda shoppers are there for 61 minutes or more so that's a lot of tickets.
Check with the manager how many people get tickets with the wrong times.
Presuming you've informed the parking company, then this is fraud if they continue the scam. Perhaps we should all go down there and park for 110 minutes and see if we get tickets.

It really has made me angry. I have the evidence from WhatsApp and Google Maps, but the biggest evidence is I know damn well I was there for just under 2 hours because we finished our time together so as I would avoid a fine for staying longer than 2 hours.

But not only that, older folk may not have NSC to vent with and sometimes they just pay the fine out of fear. That's why I'm refusing to let this go even if it is cancelled.
