The cyclists have funny shaped helmets, strategically placed handlebars and stripey upper arms.
Swimmers have tight tops and bottoms, two caps to reduce the drag from the goggle strap.
All to gain that extra inch of efficiency.
100m sprinters have long, flowing hair, chains, sunglasses, bandanas.
What gives?

Want this 100m semi to be a slow one.

Hinchliffe to repeat the feat of Harold Abrahams in the final and beat the highly-fancied American.

Being a bit out of touch this time round with the Olympics, are we about par for what's expected re medal count so far? 22 golds in 2020 - seems like it'd be tough to equal or beat that now? Great medal count overall but shame we've stalled a bit with the golds!
I believe the Team GB target is 50-70 medals (of any colour) for the games

At just beyond the halfway point we’re on 37 (10 G, 12 S, 15 B) so just about bang on
I’d say, with the track cycling (traditionally a strong event for us) to come.

Who was the last male Brit in a 100m final? Been a while? Linford?
Zarnell Hughes was in the final in Tokyo but was disqualified

Before him it was Chambers (4th) and Campbell (6th) in 2000

Thanks! yeah track cycling should be prosperous hopefully

As an aside, it intrigues me that Germany and Spain are always relatively poor at the Olympics (especially Spain!) What gives? You'd think they'd be right up there - especially Germany

Is it me? The longer the pro Brit hyperbole before an event from the BBC, the bigger the balloon pop.
Next one up is an 800 metre female runner, potential Gold I hear?

I must have misheard, she is only 17 and finished 4th, no way is she winning a Gold

Have we got another contender?

I just hope Jacobs gets nowhere near the podium. There’s no way he’s not juicing.

I saw a graphic earlier that the opening week of this Olympics is the best one we’ve ever had, certainly in the modern era. We may have bettered it in 1912 according to some reports but I’m not going to check.

Pheobe Gill.

LOVE her attitude to racing.

17-years old, running in an Olympic semi-final against world-class and seasoned racers and looks gutted not to have auto-qualified for the final, when this time last year she was running in the English Schools Championships.

There’s no “happy just to be here!” about Pheobe Gill. Her time will come.
