I think it was going to take a miracle or the Dutch making a huge mistake for GB to beat them in that sprint. Cracking effort and silver is a fine reward.

Kerr v Ingebrigtsen.

WR coming up? Very fast pace already.

Wow! What a shock result!!! 😲

Hocker was even checked with about 100m to go, then went up the inside.

Kerr - British Record and Silver medal. 🥈

Definitely not a running expert but did Kerr and the Norwegian care more about beating each other rather than coming first?
I think they both just took their eyes of the fact that it was a possibility that, other than one of them, nobody else could or would come first.

Ingebrigtsen tried to run the finish out of Kerr who's got the better sprint of the two of them, but ran out of steam himself.

And Kerr was beaten by Hocker who has the better sprint, but was allowed up in the inside lane saving vital distance on Kerr who ran wider.

I don't think so. Kerr had to stay in contention with the pace, Ingebritsen has a legendary finish, so not to go with him would've been an error. Josh ran an excellent race, the American benefitted from that and that Ingebritsen was more concerned on who was outside of him than who was coming up the inside. He opened the door for Hocker where normally that wouldn't happen.

Didn't even get a medal. He must feel pretty silly.

And Kerr was beaten by Hocker who has the better sprint, but was allowed up in the inside lane saving a little distance on Kerr who ran wider.

With hindsight, Kerr could have stayed on the inside until after the bend, and then he could have won.

I imagine the US will be paying close attention to that photo finish.

Yes, that’s exactly what I just said. They raced each other whereas the winner raced for the gold.

I like Kerr though. Reminds me of Ovett a touch.

The Yank exploited the slipstream. Still well run from Kerr
Indeed.

A great effort, a new British record and a silver medal. Much to praise there.

So Kerr could have run better if he let Ingebrigtsen get further ahead?

Kerr wouldn't have wanted to stay in the inside though, as Ingebritsen would've just blocked him off and he'd have had to expend so much energy trying to get around him. Staying on Ingebritsen's shoulder was the perfect position.

A National Record and a Silver medal, upgrade from Bronze last time, so big up to Kerr. Yeah he talked the talk, but he doesn't sound too disappointed in the interview.

He couldn't let him go and had to stay within striking distance, which he did. Job done there - his tactical race was fine.

Kerr was always likely to have to go round the outside to get past, but probably wasn't expecting Inge to both drop so quickly and move off the kerb.
