Thought it was a brilliant Olympic games, right up there with Sydney and London, thoroughly enjoyed it.

As to the medal table, we achieved our goal of between 50-70 medals and whilst 14 golds might be a tad disappointing, on reflection, it was only 2 behind the French and it was their home games and Leon Marchand got 4 of theirs! In comparison we got 29? In London 2012. Out of the 48 Olympic disciplines we medalled in 24 did Clare Balding say? That is fantastic, genuinely inspiring.
However, next time out, we will be sponsored by Brasso for the amount of second rate medals we achieved.

Anyone with a Union Flag in their national flag need to immediately hand over their gold medals to team GB, followed by all Commonwealth Golds and Hong Kong can hand over too, and finally if i find any of the yank golds were won by Hawian’s they can hand them over too as i believe there’s a Union Flag in their State flag too.

I think that now makes us the winners 👍

I think most of us celebrate our athletes getting silvers and bronze. Gold is, and always will be, the pinnacle but that doesn't stop you enjoying the other medals. There's no prize for where you finish in the table other than kudos. Trying to contrive a system to make you finish higher just seems a bit odd. Bit like saying that goals scored mean far more than games won.

It's not contriving a system, any more than getting 3 points for winning a game of football, and 1 point for drawing. If football were like the Olympic medal table, it'd be points for winning, and nothing for drawing.

You’re one of those watching the Archery saying ‘yeah, 3 months practice and I could beat the lot of them’ aren’t you ?
Funnily enough, about 5 years back I did an " Introduction to archery " day out in the Ashdown Forest with Mrs V ...never used a bow before. The guy teaching was brilliant, lots of information on archery, tips and history.....we ended up shooting 25/30 yards at rubber animal targets....I hit every one 👍

It's always fun seeing the Aussies waving a flag with the Jack on it.

Nice Hawaiian style shirts, did they expect to be in Tahiti?

Just annexing Australia and New Zealand will be enough.

Yes, that's obviously what I mean.

It is crass if they show it in a way that isn't the agreed Olympic standard. It would be crass if we pretended that's how the table was now. The Aussies have a massive chip on their shoulder and don't cope well when we beat them.

I remember.

But my suggestion wasn't based on our lack of golds, it's based on what I think works better. I think it would be good if people had good reason to celebrate their athletes getting silvers and bronzes.

Personally, I couldn't give a shite about the overall medals table - my interest is only in the individual events and the efforts and joy of those athletes. The medal table is boring willy waving for egocentric countries like USA, China and the Aussies. Sport is about glory not a fecking table.
Nope sport is about winning , that’s what’s wrong with our country, with love a loser

Getting the third highest medal tally is a real achievement. Less golds, more minor medals - mainly due to the retirement of the Golden Generation of the Velodrome. But the fact we are competitve in so many sports is a real testament to the Team GB. They've done it again, they've made the country proud.

Also, a big shout out to Australia. Fair play to them for an incredible Olympics.

Can’t believe the moaners on here. A great Olympics, and Team GB finished at the upper end of our medal target. Having done a bit of swimming (although I’m very slow), I’m in awe at the technique, speed, endurance and sheer bravery of these athletes - absolute top notch sporting prowess. We are so lucky to be able to watch so many sports in such amazing settings.

I'll just post one last pic from this morning, taken next to Notre Dame. No commentary (but the water in the Seine did not look very savoury)

Im surprised that anyone can get that animated at the Olympics medals table. It's only an indication of success really. If you want a points system, why not go the whole hog and apply a population factor, and economic indicator factor indicating spending, and a disciple coefficient to ensure 8 sprint medals are not as important as 8 medals across various disciplines.

We've done ok, we have loads of medals and I think that is a good indication of competitiveness.
