Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins have both medalled on the track in the past, haven’t they? No idea what races, though.

On the track Cavendish got a sliver in Omnium at the Rio Olympics. He also got 3 World Championship golds in the Madison (partnering Bradley Wiggins on two of those occasions).

Wiggins won 4 Olympic track golds. Individual pursuit in Athens and Beijing and Team pursuit in Beijing (another Tour de France winner Geriant Thomas was in the team as well) and Rio.

He also got a sliver and 2 bronzes at the Olympics in track events, as well as 7 golds, 4 silvers and a bronze on the track at the World Championships.

I remember when they used to chuck them onto the running track at the other end and they had to change the javelins centre of gravity for safety

It was a German (east?), wasn't it? Or Jan Zelezny, but that seams too recently or?

Edit: It was Uwe Hohn, had to google it. He used to throw 100m + ... glad they changed the balance!

East German Uwe Hohn - 104m in 1984. Zelezny was after they changed it, he was around when Steve Backley was competing

BBC had pictures of him in a mask in the changing rooms before the race.

104 meters, that's insane!!

Yup and they often used to land very flat and sometimes skimmed along the ground - I remember one that went ankle height across the running track. They changed the javelin design to avoid that.

They were because she was expecting to run faster and it is the time that counts.
