Would you rather she just sat at home ALL the time so we could all pay for everything for her? At least this way she's contributing through her taxes and stuff, giving rather than taking so to speak. Is she fit?

Five days is not enough, really, 'cos young kids, especially, get sick all the time, and you end up with hardly any holiday left at all.

.

Tell me about it. My son has just gone to nursery. Picks up anything and everything and then passes it onto me for good measure.

In a nutshell I pay a fortune a month to be ill, take time off work to look after him and grease the palms of the nursery.

Trust me, I'd rather be at work most of the time. Its a rest in comparison.

Woman here has been off for the last two days as her kid is ill. Don't mind that. Apparently she gets 5 days a year off for free if her kid is ill. Why's that then? Should it not be taken out of annual leave. Why do people with kids get more free time of than those who have chosen not to have kids.

I wouldn't bring this up normally but today she's actually in but has been banging on about writing in icing on a birthday cake, she's asked my boss to do it. She should shut the f*** up and do it herself, maybe on one of her free days holiday she gets when her kid is pretending to be ill.

Works both ways. My father is ill and I've been allowed a few liberties. My brother likewise.

It's my view, that in work, and one way or another, you can easily spot people who are really taking the piss with hours. If this is the case then fair enough something should be done.

I think it should come out of holiday too. People without kids cant get leave to look after their ill partner/parents/pet, it comes out of holiday leave.

Rubbish. Both myself and my brother have had time off in the past month due to my father being unwell.

Not so Brett, my wife and son have both taken time off (non-holiday) over the past two years to help with my post-op care and chemotherapy appointments etc.

To be honest, I think that might be the case. Especially as she has spent about an hour this morning arranging some f***ing icing on a cake.

I really shouldn't moan as I'm on here but at least i'm not putting the whole f***ing office off.

This is true - I got a week off (paid) when my Dad had an operation due to bowel cancer. I understand that my employer didn't have to pay me, but I was very grateful for the time off.

When I worked at RSCH there was a group of nursing sistersm who had once been productive members of the team, but who on returning part time after maternity leave would spend hours in a little huddle discussing their babies and doing sod all work...mate of mine used to say they were "Having a coffee morning in a work-like environment".

Fact is their priorities changed and their focus was at home and not work, not all women are like this, obviously, but I would say that this is a luxury that men would not be allowed. I have an 8 month old and have to seperate work from home completely...imagine if my boss found me nattering about my nipper with all the birds in the place??

but that sums up what boring twats men are, that we can only talk about football.....................

what ever business i have been in, men are chatting about: beer, birds, ex birds and sport in their groups ..............its no different and your priorities obviouly change as a parent and if they don't then frankly there is something wrong with that person.

Agreed. Only caveat to that is that the blokes conversations about football, beer etc. tend to be much shorter than the interminable rambling from the young mums club.

All I'm saying is we might as well pay these ladies to stop at home for all the contribution they make at work...and yes, I mean that genuinely, they really would benefit society and their families more because we pay them a salary to do nothing but worry about their babies and talk about them with their collleagues anyway. We should be more like Sweden where motherhood is recognised as a job in and of itself and let the women spend the time with their kids that pays dividends in the future.

I am not a mysogynist but believe that it is almost cruel to take these ladies away from their families too early and the world of work suffers as a consequence.

Me, too, know exactly what you mean. My boy's been at nursery since August, and picks up everything. My immune system's shot to pieces cos of diabetes, so I pick everything off him. Even had 'hand foot and mouth disease' in the autumn.

We pay £550 per month for him to go to nursery three days a week - but still have to pay them when we're away on holiday etc, so a two week break costs £225 extra, in effect

carers leave works ok in theory , until it happens and you have to do extra as that persons job isn't covered.

The same with smokersm, they get paid for fag breaks in some companies, that doesnt come out of their lunch hour or pay. Non-smokers get diddly!!

If non-smokers stopped f***ing moaning we'd be able to smoke at our desks and wouldn't have to go outside.
