I thought it was very good, but then it depends what you're expectations are with this type of thing. If you're expecting something like Poltergeist, with loads of special effects, some gruesome set-pieces and a spectacular ending then yes, you'd probably think this was shit.

If, however, you're expecting a more subtle chiller where the "action" is very understated and unsettling rather than spectacular, then P A delivers. I found it quite creepy, it WAS unsettling, and if my house was haunted by a demon, then thats pretty much how I could see it playing out. I could relate to it. We've all heard little noises in the night and wondered what the hell it was, maybe got up to investigate. It plays on THOSE kind of fears, the kind we've all had at one time or another.

Like Cheeky Monkey, I have also got up for a piss in the night since seeing this film, and some of it popped into my mind and made me a bit uncomfortable ! It doesn't help that our bedroom is set up the same way as in the film - bed to the right of the door against that wall, the missus sleeping on the door side.

No there was no face-melting or even any ghostly images to look at. But that just gave it a more realistic edge for me, and it what made it 'work'.

watch it in a theater or with your friends for the first time?

watch it alone in your basement in the pitch black with blaring surround sound? uncomfortable to say the least.

Easy, I am very dissapointed in you. I always thought you knew your films but the fact you think this steaming pile of Dog poo is not utter shite makes me have to reassess my opinion of you as to whether you are a serious reviewer of films.

I'm not a serious reviewer of anything.
It was overhyped I suppose, but I think you're being VERY harsh on a decent little chiller. The understated events that occurred made it much more 'believable' than the usual horror films full of special effects and gore. Not a classic by any means, but certainly not a steaming turd.

The Invention of Lying - now THAT was a steaming turd. I can still smell it now.

Yes its better than Duel. A film made on f*** all from a 1st time director. You may have heard of it. Yes just get out PA Nibble you would probably like it.

Duel is quite good. However it wasn't made for f*** all and Spielberg had already made quite a name for himself before that film was made. A low budget film that may just help you expand your horizons check out The Return. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Return_(2003_film)

You may like it.

I have no idea how people can argue whether a film is good or not, completely subjective. All i care about is what I THINK about a film.

here hare here
conceptually, a good idea - an attempt at a 'realistic' portrayal of paranormal activity. if you are frightened by the thought of that kind of thing, i'm sure the film would scare the crap out of you as it plays on the idea of something being out there, invisible but menacing and ultimately causing havoc. personally, i don't believe in that kind of thing and as such found the film very boring and not in the least scary. can't really argue with that rate of return on the initial investment though, eh?

Why when you are on any film thread do you compare every single film mentioned by anyone to Spielbergs films? Yeah, he has made some good stuff but cinema doesn't begin and end with the creator of ET.
