Just been down to collect his wages, lost the £2 bonus as "issues" last Sunday (his 1st day) and I cocked up one delivery this morning.

This takes me back. My paper round was 12/6 for the weekdays and 2/6 for a Sunday round - I did two rounds on Sunday for the extra dosh - so a grand total of 17/6 (88p)

I think it was up to £1 a week and 50p for Sunday rounds by the time I'd finished.

i don't understand people who say they do the paper rounds for their kids though - I'd have got no chance if I'd asked my old man to do mine, I'd probably ended up with extra punishment for my cheek.

...it also teaches responsibility, getting up at half past six to go and deliver papers on a school-day makes it a hell of a lot easier to adjust when you get a real job...certainly did me no harm whatsoever, plus it was exercise belting around on me treader!!!

Unless you had parents like Gully who gave you decent amounts of pocket money every week as they see paper rounds are for the working class children.

Unfortunately not algie, my parents were skint and I didn't get pocket money after the age of about 12...at which point I was able to get gardening jobs and clean cars for neighbours...which also taught me at a very early age that you get nothing in life unless you are prepared to work for it.

Late 80's / early 90's - 116 Leaders around Hollingdean on a Thursday.

I can remember going out of the house at around 6:30am with them loaded up on my back and wobbling down the road

One week, the leaflets were, in fact, chocolate bars given out as samples. Needless to say, less than 116 of those bad-boys got delivered.

The bus timetables were the worst leaflet to get as they were thicker than the newspaper itself.

All for about £5
