Just done Juniors as he was away last night and hard work for £5.

Could only take half the round due to the supplements then had to collect the other half and it was hard work getting it through the letter boxes.

Still I am a very good Dad IMHO !

I'm a bad Dad - have never allowed my two kids to take a paper round in the village here. I KNOW who would end up doing it!

Tell me about it !

I am doing Saturday and Sunday weekend after next :angry::angry:

He actually gets £2 weekdays and £5 weekend plus a £2 bonus for no mistakes / complaints - I think I may have blown his bonus this morning delivering to the wrong house

Sunday paper round must be the killer. Most of the papers can hardly fit in the letter-box, let alone a kid's paper-round bag. A single's street's worth must weigh a ton. Rafael Nadal would struggle with a Sunday paper-round.

Started of like a ton and kept nearly falling of my bike but after delivering the first 4 the bag was manageable.

The second half was easier and the worst bit is breaking them down to actually shove through the letter box. Older houses with smaller letter boxes were not designed for the modern day paper with a load of supplements.

I used to hate doing it as a kid. My round included Tongdean Road and around there. All of them had the large Sunday Papers plus others. It used to make me weep in the Winter. And you look at these houses with tiny letter boxes and think "f*ck you, why should I slide in one sheet at a time. Get a proper letter box or accept that it's gonna be on your door mat".

Did it for about a year and then caved.

Aside - the newsagents used to be next to The Dyke Tavern on Dyke Road. The charming old man that ran it (long dead) used to offer the paper girls cash for hand jobs! What a charmer.

I'd take my hat off to your son if I wore one (unlike many of my peers on here I have all my hair still). To get out in all weathers for such a pittance is highly commendable.

im 15 and do a paper round every morning, if your son wants easier money i do my round in the morning and then most sundays before or after my match he can do refereeing. I normally get £20 and the local league normally gives me a game within 2 miles. Gets you fit and can be fun, obviously because of my age i can only do u13s and there is no abuse or anything at that age. Only problem is the course, the most boring thing ive ever done.

Someone delivered a Guardian to me on a Saturday a few weeks back, have to say it was a nice bonus and a pretty good read...if that was you then might I suggest you get rid of your satnav...oh and any chance of a Times next Saturday?

That does seem good money, I seem to remember getting five or six quid a week for a morning round in the early 80's...mind you, I have to say that it was pretty easy money as my round was near the centre of the village and only took me about half an hour (would have been far quicker if I hadn't spent time reading the footy pages in the papers)...certainly far easier than the gardening jobs I had at the weekends, that could be really hard graft!
