thats different, that was a one off. to put it in perspective, are other nations competing at the olympics, doing panarama specials on living in England, Race problems, nazi gangs rooming streets. Im not so sure.

Actually, ahead of the olympics, there has been a special on the gang culture in East London (black v black and Eastern European mobsters) as well reporting the high proportion (relative to the rest of the country) of rapes taking place in Straford including a warning to women. The documentarty basically highlighted the social problems we see in metropolitan areas in UK today. I even think Panarama did something a couple of years ago.

Now I don't think black yoofs will go round raping foreign women/ stabbbing tourists during the olympics any more than neo nazis will attack English fans.

It is all about creating headlines. The media is the enemy

I think there is more of a risk of trouble away from the stadiums to be honest, but we were told even by the reporter that racism isn't really a major issue away from football, so I'd be genuinely surprised if brown skinned people encountered trouble. That said, I can sympathise with those who do decide it simply isn't safe - it's a real shame no-one trusts UEFA to have made a decision based on important things such as visitor safety really.

I agree, away from the stadiums is the place you'd likely be at greater risk. I think my point is that if there are that number of people with such extreme views in one city, I'd not feel entirely comfortable wandering back to my hotel at night knowing there might be a group of people like that around the next corner. I think it's the sheer number that staggers me. It wasn't a harcore of a few hundred at one game, they were at every single game in large numbers.

Obviously the content was shocking, but why do the BBC say "stadiums" when it must be "stadia"? Unless "stadiums" is now accepted as a word

And Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Voloshyn said fans had nothing to fear.

"Nazi symbols can be seen at ... any match in England, but does it mean that fans should not come to London for the Olympics?," he said.
How many Nazi symbols have YOU witnessed at grounds around the country? Is he just being a stupid ass, or is there some truth to it?

I personally think he is an ass

according to Ukrainian Foreign ministry spokesman, Oleg Voloshyn, "Nazi symbols can be seen at any match in England, but does that mean That fans should not come to London For the Olympics". Are these dickheads for real? Along with the Ukrainian police chief claiming that several hundred fans giving the nazi salute were actually just pointing it seems the Ukraine is still stuck in some kind of 70s Soviet time warp when it comes to telling the truth and is employing north Korean levels of denial about the sickening levels of racism and in particular anti-semitism that are endemic to football in the Ukraine. Who here has ever seen nazi symbology openly displayed at a football match in the last 30 years? Can you imagine unfurling a banner at the Amex saying something along the lines of 'your fans are all sons of Jewish whores' ? Ukraine, what a horrible place.

The Championship.
It's a total disgrace that the Euros is being held in Poland and Ukraine. Watching the programme was horrible and what is more surprising is that the police do absolutely nothing and are too blind to see the racism chanting and gesturing and hitler solutes in the terraces. I find it shocking that Russia also got chosen over us to host the 2018 world cup.

I have a bad feeling about this tournament, especially when we play Ukraine.

Ukraine are also about to vote on a bill which would make it illegal to be gay or lesbian in public. It really is in the dark ages!

All Out

While I dont condone anything that was shown, I do think that you could make a similar video in England at certain Football matches.

Obviously the racist element wouldnt be there but at EVERY game this season (certainly the ones Ive been to) there has been homophobic chanting, which is just as bad I think.

As for the grafiti, They had obviously gone to their equivilent of a council estate to get those shots. You have things like that all over Europe.

The beating up of those Asians was very far over the line but its not like the English havent been angels on recent tourniments is it?

Why if you are a football fan, would you even ask that question?......... even in the bad old days of the 70's and 80's we never saw that, a few skinhead tattoos or t shirts maybe, but never in flag or banner form, and certainly not for the last 20 years or so.

There were union flags covered with the National Front symbol "joined N & F" all over the place in the early 80s. If you look at England matches in the 1982 WC in Spain, they are sadly all too prominent, as is fighting in the stands.

Im not making excuses for anyone, just saying that people shouldnt forget that in very recent tourniments the English fans have been violent and in far bigger numbers than that video showed

Organised Nazi and racist banners with t-shirts being produced is not quite the same as a few hundred singing homophobic chants. Also the difference is the ideology behind it, do the people who sing "does your boyfriend know your here?" really have strong homophobic beliefs systems? Maybe a couple but on the whole I doubt it, whereas it would appear that antisemitism and "white pride" is key to to these people's lives and identity.

England supporters have been pretty well behaved in recent tournaments as well.

What VERY RECENT tournaments?..... I seem to recall zero arrests in SA, and only 2 when 25000 Chelsea fans recently visited Munich..... please enlighten me on this RECENT comment.

That's not within the 'last 20 years', which is what Somerset was saying.
