Old man alert, and I will stand corrected, but back in the day weren't the Panini albums distributed ‘free’ with copies of Shoot?

I was in the CoOp yesterday and came across the PaninI Euro 2024 album point of sale stand, for a moment I thought, even though he’s only 16 months, collecting them for my Grandson as part of his memory box.

Okay you get 24 ‘free’ stickers in the pack, but the Album now costs £5.99!

You can’t really blame that on Covid or the Ukraine🙈

God knows how much the sticker packs cost? 😂

I still see the Panini albums being given away free in the local corner shop. It seems to be the newer Topps Match Attax collections that come with high priced albums, different options when it comes to buying the packs, including collectors tins containing limited edition cards etc that get progressively more expensive.

It's an overly complex cash trap now when buying football cards, buying the stickers and doing swaps in the playground was so much easier.

I remember free albums. And I still get a Pavlovian reaction and a flashback to childhood with the smell of a freshly opened pack of stickers

As another said, a horrible complicated expensive mess now. Another thing football greed has destroyed.

Going to cost a few quid to complete the set 🙈

Football 78 stickers were 5p, I wonder what that equates to on the inflation calculator?
About 27p. Although I remember Roy of the Rovers being 9p then. That was about 25p by the time I left school.

I remember the albums being given away with Shoot! I think there was a free pack of stickers too. League Ladders was my favourite give away though.

Got, got, need. NEVER say 'need' with too much enthusiasm. The price will go up. Nine year olds know more about price and demand than folk think. If I desperately needed a sticker to complete a team I would say 'I think I need that but I'm not sure. I'll take it anyway'

Stickers were already about 20/25p a pack by the mid 80s.

League Ladders were the best, along with the FA Cup Wall chart, spent many happy hours filling out both as a kid.

One thing I could never understand is why the albums/stickers were never released til the January of each season 🤔

I always wondered this as well, the marketing people obviously knew what they were doing.

Less going on post Xmas?

I think growing up Match Attacks were 35p a pack, I’ve got 4 or 5 completed books in the loft. Used to love swapping them on the playground. Mum used to send me over the shop to get bread/milk or whatever and let me spend the change on 1 or 2 packs! Wouldn’t be able to do that now
