No pallid pancakes here. We are having a full blown New Orleans Mardi Gras - red beans & rice, gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding with whiskey sauce, New Orleans jazz on the stereo, New Orleans Saints sweatshirt and loads of beads thrown and caught from floats on the parades on the day. A different Shrove Tuesday.

We used to regularly have these at a kid and I loved them. A couple of years ago decided to get some for my kids and they couldn't stand them!

Normal pancakes I don't really do, used to as a kid, same with cakes. Never tried American either, they just look so sickly sweet.

If I was going to have some , it would be lemon and sugar, or bandanas, blueberries, chocolate and cream.

Tales all sorts, I guess...

Today always reminds me of that fabulous restaurant sited by the entrance to the Lanes, called My Old Dutch

Served the most enormous pancakes [2 foot diameter] with a huge menu of both sweet and savoury options - great night out back in the early 80's - anyone else remember that place?

It's the 5th greatest day on the calendar

1 - Christmas Day
2 - ones own birthday
3 - Halloween
4 - Easter Sunday
5 - Pancake day

That's the official verdict from my kids.

I'm inclined to agree, I'm not sure whether Good Friday creeps in ahead of Pancake Day, but that would be my top 6.

Favourite toppings?

I don't understand the question.

Pancakes are served with caster sugar and lemon juice.
There are no "toppings"

You are of course entirely correct. I do like the crunch of granulated sugar, though this may just be because I was raised in a home where that was the only sugar.
Further I hope you can forgive me using lime juice this afternoon. I'd run out of lemon.
