Your new facility looks great, Fair play. I wish we had something as swanky in the pipeline. But kids and more importantly parents like to see results and top class coaching within academies, Something which can't always be bought off the peg.
True, it takes years of over spending and a couple of administrations.

Got the compliments Hilly. I was purely asking you what we needed to do as you had posted this- Which you won't get without massive investment into the existing facilities.

Fair enough.

It's been answered many times since you asked though.

For me, I think the whole idea behind the EPP scheme is massively in favour of Premier League Clubs and should never have been put in place. Crewe have been surviving for years now on their academy products and now will be stripped of any emerging talent.

Greed will always win.

With the hoops that have had to be jumped through to get through planning it may not be as straight forward as that.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the big prem guns apply pressure to tweak the requirements even further in order to snare the talent they want. It doesn't sit too well.
Incidentally I believe that one of the only factors that Palace needed to address in order to re apply for Cat 1 status was accomodation. This was something that was to be addressed back in Feb of this year in order to upgrade the category. I don't know what the timelines are though. Sounds unlikly that you cannot re apply for 2 years although if these rules were dreampt up by the top 4 then anything is possible.

Your new facilities - or the artists drawing of some posh new bulidings looks ace and will be a draw, but then our facilities are also excellent and we have the advantage of a proven track record and an excellent reutations with established scouting and coaching which is widely respected throughout the game. It is a selling point that cannot be bought.

Reading his comments here it looks like your chairman is happy to remain CAT2

EPPP categorisation - CPFC BBS

Your comments about attracting youngsters is true, but remaining CAT 2, means Cat1 clubs can just walk in and take them. You have not had to deal with this before.

Palace certainly have a lot of talent landing in their laps. Hardly surprising with such a densely populated area. Most of the other smaller teams in London are neighbours to big Premier League teams.

They've also managed to sustain a second tier status, by hook or by crook, which undoubtedly helps attract players.

The training ground doesn't offer any accommodation, look at the plans on Adur's planning website. BHAFC have recently stepped up their search for host families in Lancing because of this.

Category 1 costs a lot, one coach per 8 players, a number of specialist coaches and a recommendation that you spend at least 2.5m a year on coaching in general.

Event Watford whose academy has been on a par with Palace and Carlisle has been adjudged to only meet Cat 3.

Yeah I don't think accomodation has to be on site, host families is acceptable.

By the way, my understanding is that the picture someone posted earlier is actually Palace's training ground and not their Academy. Their Academy operates at a much swankier training facility which I'm not sure Palace fully own but may rent from somebody or operate in in conjunction with them. I might be wrong though??

Those are the kindest comments I've read from a non-palace fan regarding their blatant cheating of the taxman and local companies and the rest of the football league (TWICE).

Are you a diplomat?:)

Charlton are near - who? THe river acts as a bit of a barrier you know. And as you know in the past charlton tried to expand their catchment area to the South coast. Which means their coaching system must be crap compared to Palace's.

I would be surprised if they already own such a place, as their trust are desperately trying to locate land and the money for a new ground, that is also to the standard required for the academy.

Swankier? No. It operates out of a tent, on the astroturf round the back of the Crystal Palace Sports Centre swimming pool.

John Bostock. This is why we are now attempting to gain Cat 1 status. Will the Brighton Academy go straight in at Cat 1?
