There's a delightful scenario unfolding at CPFC2010.
After declining £70m from Newcastle for Marc Guehi they will now be in a likely scenario in January of being in a relegation battle but with their generational talent only having 18 months left on his contract.
Does Beaky at that point decline much reduced offers (£40/50m?) or does he cash in on his best player which weakens their defence and increases their likelihood of relegation?

Beaky could keep Guehi until next summer (with only one year left on his contract), but getting relegated and suddenly finding his winning £70m lottery ticket was left in his pocket when he put his trousers in the washing machine.

p.s.
Has that new stand been started yet with the ring fenced money?
No doubt John Textor will chip in a bit more to help pay for it, even though they've just declined £70m and are in the relegation zone. Oh wait....
Or maybe it's time to start introducing some of those brilliant academy players to the first team squad. Oh wait.....
It's even worse than that. The grim realisation is that Guehi is not really that great......palaces defence looks very shaky.

Higher attendances agreed
Better ground Subjective, I would say no
Better squad Subjective, how do you define it?
Better owners Subjective, what makes you think Bloom is better than Parish
Better Strategy Subjective please explain what your strategy is
Unbeaten this season agreed

There was a lot of gloating about Europe last season, and it started well, but came unstuck in Rome. So not quite world beaters but not far off it.

Palace beaters, well the record says you have won more than us over all time, but its only 4 games for now.

Not sure any Palace fan would consider us in your shadow now. At what point do you need to look for new rivals if we are not up to scratch?
Where shall we categorise Academies then, @eaglesdan? Should that fall under “squads” or “strategy”?

It looks very shaky playing this 5-3-2 formation…in fact it’s all over the place. Once we went to 4-4-2 we looked so much better and TBF Guehi looked good after that.

We haven’t got the players for Glasners preferred system, Mitchell is a great LB but a poor WB, lesson must be learned and quickly, I personally think this is one of Palaces strongest teams since promotion but trying to push square pegs into round holes is not working.

Not overly concerned yet, just a bit disappointed.

From what I've seen from the highlights, you probably should have got a draw yesterday, from the second half performance.
Having said that, you should also have been dead and buried from your first half performance.

Sorry, I must have completely missed when Guehi got rolled by the attacker who went through on goal and missed (whilst Guehi gave up). Bit of a trademark move for Marc that getting rolled by the attacker one as you must be well aware by now.

He’s a good player but I would be concerned that he doesn’t look as good without his partner from last year next to him.

I’m not convinced that we have the defenders for Fabian’s preferred system either so I’ll hold off on taking the piss for the moment

Today will hopefully clarify if last weekend was a one off….or not

Think that matches the earlier conversation that he might need another window to get the players he needs to play his system

I'm so hoping for a strong performance today, yes results matter and you'd rather fluke a win than dominate and get a draw, but I do want us to start playing consistently to our potential

Exactly. £70 million was an outrageous sum of money for a, generally, competent PL centre back. The Euros love-fest was really bizarre considering his errors and mediocre distribution. As another poster said a few days ago; he doesnt look so good without Andersen doing his heading for him.

Something that table highlights is that they haven’t had a particularly tough start to the season, which can sometimes result in a false position in the table. Out of their opening 7 games, 5 have been against bottom-half teams.

If they can fend off Real Madrid in January from poaching Wharton, they should stay up.
