Well done Brighton for finishing above us.

IMHO both clubs have has an outstanding season, with BHA piping us by 3 points.

Cheers.

Two big achievements for Palace this season.

1. Conor Gallagher will undoubtedly be starting for Chelsea next season, you have given his career a tremendous boost, Chelsea will be very pleased with you.

2. Patrick Viera’s nomination for manager of the season for getting your from 14th to 12th in only one season can’t be played down. I’m not sure how that happened but hats off to your club (and Arsenal) for any influential nudging that may have occurred.

Joking aside, I must admit, through clenched teeth, to have been impressed with Vieira. Another young manager who learned a few things from working with Guardiola, he seems to have noted the, oft overlooked, value of organising a team in a way that will provide the stability necessary to safely allow his flair players freedom. He had a fairly inexperienced back line, who hadn't played together, but finished the season seventh in goals conceded behind only the top four, Wolves and us. With the excellent Gallagher going back, he will obviously need to find someone next season who can snap at opposing midfielders and have the energy to drive his team forward. If he can do this, with some decent attacking players, things look good for them.

Of course, there is always hope, and for us wishing the worst on them, the hope may be that this year's defensive record has been greatly helped by the back four being stable and almost completely free from injury for the entire term. Andersen, Guehi and Mitchell have all hardly missed a game and Ward also has close to 30 appearances. Vieira hasn't had to deal with the type of defensive injuries that are very common in the division. Nobody has played 30 games for us at CB this season, and nobody did it at full back in 2020/21. Behind their first choice four, things start to look a bit thin. A back four featuring Martin Kelly & James Tomkins for a sustained period may not be as reliable as Veltman, Cucurella, Duffy, Burn all proved to be for us this season. He needs more investment in squad players to keep them on an upward trajectory and we can but hope that the owners revert to type this summer and leave him with a fairly thin squad that could collapse pretty quickly with some key absences. Its the tough times when managers show their worth and I cling to the fact that Vieira hasn't seen any tough times at Palace yet.

More Palace news. They've ditched the Malaysian online "betting platform" W88 after a 2 year deal in favour of the UK private equity owned car sales company - Cinch - as their new shirt sponsors.
A rumoured imminent ban on EPL having betting companies as shirt sponsors might be related.

Another achievement being the only side for years (apart from Liverpool one season) not to concede a goal against the champions Man City. And beat 'em 2-0 on their own ground.

Considering all the doom and gloom about 13 (was it?) players being out of contract at the end of last season and a totally new manager to the Prem, going up two places and having a sniff of the Top 10 is pretty good. Of course Albion can't remember life before the Prem, when Palace finished 3rd in 1990/91.

Does this mean Rylan is lined up as their new mascot?

Edit, given the ensuing posts: This wasn't in any way intended as "hur hur, Rylan is a gayer", just that he does the Cinch adverts and a lovely line in 'distraught face' GIFs.

Palace highest finish since rebranbing the top league is 10th. We just beat that. Happy days

Yes by scoring fewer goals than your opponents too. We scored more.

Wasn't it one season Abion nearly got promoted with a negative GD back in the early 1990's? BP (Before Premiership)

You mean life before the first time Palace went bust paying for almost success at the expense of its creditors

The year before the PL when we lost to Warnock’s Notts County in the playoffs?
