To be clear.
All I'm saying is that we have overplayed how good our model is in comparison to Palace's

The reality is we are much more closely matched, than either side likes to admit.
6 to 12 months ago, we were well ahead of them. But we've shot ourselves in the foot and they've improved massively, now they are much closer to us as a club.

Yes they have some good players in. But I would no way swap Mitoma, Pedro, Enciso for anything they've got.

I fancy us to finish above them next season, as long as we don't cock the manager appointment up and as long as we're not running at 8 to 10 injured players per game the whole season

I'd have Olise over Enciso. But I'd rather have them both.

Considering where they were 3 or 4 seasons ago, when they had to release 3/4s of their squad and start again, it's very impressive, where they are right now.

I think it's worth reviewing the figures if we're talking about financial models:

Since the 2 Covid-affected seasons, across which both teams made similar losses of circa £100m, Brighton have reported pre-tax profits of £27m and £133m, with a likley profit of around 90m for this season (with Caicedo and Sanchez transfers included) - a total of £250m profit in 3 seasons. Palace have reported losses of 52m across 21-23 and, pre-July sales notwithstanding, will likely report another 25m loss for 23-24. So a total of about 75m loss.

In summary, we're 350m better off than them over the last 3 seasons so in a very strong position going forward. All they have to show for their losses compared to our profits is a 1 point superiority in a season where we played in Europe and had the worst run of injuries I can remember.

Palace will lose AT LEAST 2 of their 'star' players this summer. Yes they will likely be for very large fees but it's how you re-invest that is key, as we found out to our cost as a result of genuine (and rare) mistakes in our recruitment last summer.

Had we turned any of the 3 or 4 awful home draws into just a single win then we would have finished above them.

Let's see how they fare if they lose Wharton for £100m+ but only days before the window shuts. If they do start how they left off then let's also see how they like the CONSTANT speculation and courting of their manager, every single f***ing day.

Exactly.

And before anyone glibly points out that our huge profit is no good to a season ticket holder, it is worth pointing out that it does mean we are in a position to offer whatever we feel is right for any players willing to come here, whereas Palace need to sell players to balance the books. In other words, the position in the first week of June hardly reflects the true position of either club. If we haven't strengthened by August while Palace have got away with only major sale, I will reconsider. But right now, we're not in a bad place at all.

Just imagine if we purchased Olise! Wage structure wouldn’t allow us, sadly, but it would be bloody funny

I think they’ve already spent the proceeds of two player sales on incomings in Jan and early summer window.
If they don’t sell anyone then they are in the sh@t financially as they took out a loan to secure players like Wharton knowing that they would sell in the summer to repay the loan (allegedly)

Makes me smile this thread 😁

Quite a few made up stories without facts and a few posters trying to make themselves feel better.

As you know I am not a wind up poster, and palace will lose players this close season but with the new manager we have I believe already made a couple of signings all ready and will have a couple of first team players back from injury.

Palace whether you like it or not are in quite a good place at the moment and many of us go into the new season with real hope of a top 8 finish. Now that might not happen as I am old enough to know it’s the hope the kills you.

Let’s enjoy the cricket the suns out.

I think the idea that they " are in the shit financially" is based on their wage costs from 4 seasons ago.
They have done a good job in addressing this and now have a comparable salary to income percentage as us.

The difference between the clubs is that we pay wages for a lot more players.
They focus on paying higher wages for their stars and having less development players on the payroll.

Both models have their merits.

I agree with you, however, when was the last time that you had a manager that started interesting the rich 6? I'm not sure I can remember.
Potter and RDZ actually taught me that sometimes it's better to stay just under their raders. Potter going just 6 games into a season when we were 4th opened my eyes, and not in a good way. Then the eventual daily media speculation on RDZ became tiresome and an unwelcome circus.
Enjoy Glasner while you have him, because one thing I can absolutlely guarentee you is that if you do break top 8 then it won't be very long before the sharks turn up.

I don’t know this for a fact but I think Palace ran us close for injured first team players out for lengthy periods last season, as did a couple of other clubs, but their managers didn’t whinge about it in every presser?

I don’t know about the numbers but having , Doucoure, Olise, Eze, Guehi, Holding, Franca, Johnson out for long periods all at the same time certainly effected our season.

I think that most of RDZ's griping re injuries came in the weeks either leading up to / immediately after the Europa League games.

Palace didn't have that problem.

Probably worked out in the long term for you, otherwise Woy might still be there.

Yes, who knows what will happen, but lovely for you to have a little bit of hope at last. Industry experts will have Palace rated to finish next season just below Brighton in around 11th or 12th place.

I put your chance of matching our Europa League achievement as being close to zero in the next 10 years.

As things stand CURRENTLY Palace are more likely to get into Europe than us but things can and probably will change before kickoff

Just to add a further bit of reality to this thread, the odds of relegation next season are as follows:

Palace: 10-1
Brighton: 20-1
