That is a great picture. You can imagine him giving some Forrest-Gump -style monologue about the 'The Team of the 80s' to others waiting for the bus, before they all slope off to kill themselves.

If it was just one iffy penalty decision it could be classed as a 'hissy fit.'
It has been, however, several this season. Obviously you'd know that if you knew anything about football.

To be fair, it must be frustrating to not get the same treatment as the big clubs over penalty decisions. I'm sure if we look at the stats that Pardew must have a case for saying: 'If it was us we wouldn't have got it.'

Just look at 2013/14 when Liverpool were top of the penalties awarded table and Palace languished down in ...

https://www.statbunker.com/competitions/ForPenalty?comp_id=449 Oh? Joint fourth? That can't be right.

Well then lets look at 2014/15:

https://www.statbunker.com/competitions/ForPenalty?comp_id=481

See? Liverpool were still close to the top for penalties awarded, joint fourth in fact! Joint with.... Oh, its Crystal Palace...

Yes but this year things have been different haven't they?

Palace's unfair treatment from referees has them down in,

https://www.statbunker.com/competitions/ForPenalty?comp_id=515 Oh they're still joint sixth with twice as many awarded as Liverpool.

Oh well, I suppose facts are nothing compared to knowing 'anything about football'.

P.S. With Bournemouth jumping over Palace, your user name should now be '9 Places Apart.' It may need editing for accuracy again if Swansea get a point on Saturday.

Could well be accurate again next season if Palace fans' nightmare scenario comes true.

"Full kit with way too tight shorts, tick! White velcro trainers that make me look as if I've just been released from Broadmoor, check! Not one but two horrible, ill fitting and awkward to carry bags, you bet!

Almost perfect, just one thing missing....... YES! A crappy little flag that a six year old child would be embarrassed to hold, get in! I'm off to catch the bus."

Brighton played Palace on Boxing Day in 1951 but not again in the 50s or 60s or indeed 70s until 1979 and then 3 times in the 80s - 83, 86, and 1988 which included some celebrated victories.
That chant (i think ) i think refers to those.

Absolutely right.
I read that the chant was based on the 1951 Boxing Day game antics which pretty much started the rivalry which continued for the next 14 games.

Then a lull in the battle (11 years without a game) until Mullery/Venables ignited it again in 76.

Good work.

I'm going for:

A selection of old programs.
A Palace baseball cap.
Binoculars
Half of a snickers bar.
A Sony Walkman (cassette tape version, loaded with Tina Turner's Greatest Hits).

This is some excellent stats work, although my only critique would be that there's no ratio of penalties to possible/probable penalties. That would, however be an almost impossible stat to generate, given the subjectivity in any such decision.

Also useful stats as I was just thinking "I don't think we've taken many penalties this season" just the other day, and it turns out we've been awarded two so far, while conceding five!

Oh the irony.

Ok then, shall we start a petition to get Palace relegated from the Premier league due to their promotion being based on their cheating and diving tactics to get there, I'm sure someone on here could set it up!
