Palace come up with a novel idea

BACKGROUND

Thousands of Palace fans from around the country are planning to make the trip to Coventry’s Ricoh Arena on 12th February, as the inaugural Palace On Tour Day (POTD) swings into action. Stemming from a basic idea on the Palace fans’ forums, POTD has captured the imagination of the supporters, who are being urged to travel to the match. The aim is to celebrate the club in the best way we know how, by singing and displaying the Palace colours with pride. And now of course have an added cause to party- a Palace legend at the helm in Dougie Freedman.

Supporters are encouraged to create a carnival atmosphere at the ground, with themes including fedora and cigars, to commemorate the late Big Mal, and silly hats on display. 2000 red and blue balloons have been bought by the fans and will be given away on the day, and also to those purchasing tickets in person at the box office. The Holmesdale Fanatics are also planning to be out in force.

This is simply about having a great day out supporting the club we love. We all saw how passionate Palace fans are last season- the protests at Lloyds and the magnificent support at Sheffield Wednesday. We want to replicate that, and also say a big thank you to CPFC2010 for saving the club. The away support has been terrific already this season, and we want to double that at Coventry.

Coventry was chosen after fans were polled as to which match they’d prefer to go to- The Ricoh Arena proved popular as it is an easy ground to get to by car, coach or train, and holds a large amount of away supporters. Palace fans will be travelling from as far a field as USA, Germany and Norway to get to the match, why not join them and celebrate CPFC?

Dougie Freedman said after his recent appointment that Palace is a club he’d fallen in love with; let’s take this opportunity to remind him, and ourselves, why.

THEMES

A few have been suggested on the original thread, including silly hats (as was done at Anfield many years ago) and fedoras and cigars in honour of the late Big Mal. Both seem like a good idea to me. As a bare minimum ensure you’re donned in as much red n blue as possible.

BALLOONS

It wouldn’t be a Palace day out without the mandatory balloons, so we’ll be making sure that they’re there again. The plan is for anyone collecting tickets for the match from the box office to be offered a few balloons for to take with them on the day. In addition, a few of us will be handing them out on the day on the trains on the way up there and around the pubs prior to KO. They’re expensive though, so if any kind souls out there fancy throwing a few quid towards helping to make this a success you can send some pennies by Paypal to cpfcballoons@hotmail.co.uk.

PROMOTION

The club are fully aware and supportive of the initiative, and will be including details on the official website and in the upcoming matchday programmes. Local papers and media are also being informed and have agreed to run the story.

But the real promotion should be done by the fans. A few Facebook pages have sprung up; search ‘Palace On Tour Day' for the most prominent. Let’s also use the power of Twitter; http://www.twitter.com/palaceontour

TICKETS

Tickets will be on sale shortly, priced at £26 adults and £14 concessions.

GETTING THERE

ON THE DAY

Various pubs have been mooted as meeting places, I'll update this post as and when any achieve critical mass...

I don't usually join in with all the knocking Palace just for the sake of it, as although I hate them I find it a bit petty and a waste of time. However, this is PATHETIC and LAUGHABLE. I hope they take 800 on their 'big day'.
I doubt it 1000 went to the fa cup match. Many didn't because this was coming.

OK They got a load of praise from Swansea on their website after saturdays unlucky defeat. You lot might not like it but most teams we play wish they had something similar.

Enjoy your trip OG,imo you will need a result there if you are to beat the drop.
Genuine question to you, you have a very big game on Saturday, surely your fans should have more interest in attending that game instead.
It is like they are treating the game at COV as a relegation party.

just going for a laugh and drink myself. We will have 14000 on Saturday and i would imagine 90% of the Coventry turn out will be amongst that.i went to Cov. last year and it is the most soulless ground i have ever been to.You lot had better watch out or the 'second best stadium in terms of finish' could be the same.

They did make quite a lot of noise (mainly by banging a sodding drum) considering there was only about 8 of them.
