I've never played the latter but from what I can see, they're very different. Pickle ball is more akin to tennis but with a hollow, perforated ball on a small court. Watching clips, I get the impression you can't get much power on your shots.
Padel is played on an enclosed court. What makes it interesting is the ball is still in play when it bounces off the side or rear walls, as long as it only it bounces on the opposition's side just once. It appears much more fast-paced than pickle ball.
