They need a far bit of space to roam around as they can cover quite a large distance during the course of a day. If there is a way out of your garden - they'll find it. Some can climb a bit (yes, really) and manage to get over things you wouldn't think possible.

They also, oddly, have quite a lot of individual character and will have different feeding habits, times of day they like etc.

ha ha - you not gonna tell your secrets!! :D

I'm not sure of the specifics to be honest :D Nothing sexual though.....

There are things you can do to prepare it for hibernation and especially when it comes back round again.

Involves putting them in a very shallow pool of water etc.. You can also do them a favour by keeping them "moisturised", again you'll need to buy a book or something.

They are supposed to eat all many of things, but ours will ONLY eat lettuce.

Won't touch fruit etc..

They do go walkies though, when they get going they really motor.

I owned one for about 8 years till it died in hibernation. You need to get its body weight up over the Summer so it can survive the winter.

I loved it, but they are the most ungrateful pets you can have. They have no real homing instinct and will spend their entire waking day either eating or trying to escape. They will explore the boundaries of wherever you keep them, and they can dig and can climb a bit so be warned.

Most tortoise are found wandering the streets:down:

I had a tortoise once, but it took me ages to get it out of the little packing case it came in. Had to take a crowbar to it in the end.

Bugger never did thank me.

They also like strawberries, mine even comes down everyday to the backdoor for its food.

Good family pet but make sure your garden is secure as mine always seems to find away out.

My mums is over 40 now as we were given it as a present for my older brother when he was 2

Very little to do but feed, clean their eyes and bath them in shallow water when they wake up, feed and water loads during the summer and good size box of hay for the winter oil shell once a year with olive oil thats it really
