The only time i think a name change is acceptable is instances like Swansea when they went from Town to City when they got City Status. Although they could have kept Town as their name.

Isnt Ipswich a city? But they have kept Town. I don't know.

hull city tigers will be the new name officially adopted by the club in the premier league.

Owners assem and ehab allam have confirmed their intention to re-brand hull city by dropping the 'afc' and putting the emphasis on 'tigers'.

They said one of the reasons for the change is to give the club a stronger "brand identity" on the international stage.

Reminds me a bit of the SANZAR Rugby Union comp (the modestly branded Super XV) where they have dispensed with the city or town names in their branding. So locals and rugby nerds will know here the Bulls, Stormers or Chiefs come from, nobody else has a clue! I am not sure why its done that way.

How long will it be before a club owner in the ever increasing chase for money, sells off a clubs naming rights. American Express City ?. Far fetched, maybe not.They used to stand on the terraces of Llansantffraid & sing, were the famous Total Network Solutions & gonna win the league.

TNS don't even play in the same country any more. And I don't think there were EVER terraces at the ground when it was in Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain, just seats and a standing area behind a fence.

Their official name is now The New Saints of Oswestry Town & Llansantffraid Football Club / Clwb Pêl-droed y Seintiau Newydd.
