I think quite a few fans of the newer Championship clubs such as Bolton, Blackburn, Weds etc will be surprised at how far we've come

Now they were in Division 2 for the first time and they were getting hammered most weeks 9-0 at Middlesbrough, 5-0 at Liverpool (second divsion also-rans) 3-0 at Bristol City (getting better). Cup glory: nope, Brighton had not won a Cup match against a good team for as long as anybody could remember. It was at the Goldstone which was a big open terrace, a tin shed (North Stand) and they (before my time) had just started building the West Stand, which never did get finished.

So the MASSIVE Sheffield Wednesday were visiting (must been such a downer for such a MASSIVE club to find out where they had to visit?) Not many clubs did because the away club didn't win many. It must have been a fine day in October (not raining) because 26,987 turned up (at the time the second highest gate of the season) and Brighton lost and Wednesday went up as Champions.

The Hillsbrough gate was 21,368 as they were heading up as Champions.

Is anybody alive who went to that match ? Not me.
Will they be in the crowd on Friday?

Wednesday had to come back in 1972-73 as got relegated out of Divsion 1. Brighton were floundering at the bottom of the Division 2. That match I did go to. The crowd was 18,699 and it was a thrilling 3-3 draw. The away gate was 16,122.

In 1976-77 the MASSIVE Wednesday got relegated to Divsion 3 and we had to play them again. The Goldstone was much the same although the West Stand was half built by then. This time the crowd was 30,756 and we were 0-1 down at half time to win 3-2. The Hillsborough game was 0-0 and the crowd was 17,177.

To sum it up it is really good for them to let the smaller tinpot clubs to play at Hillsborough against the MASSIVE Wednesday. And losing semi-finals in 1983 when they were not at the races. Got to watch them Jimmy Case free kicks and they watched it go in! Perhaps, it is the southern air?

Altogether Wednesday are a very generous. Perhaps, it is because they are MASSIVE?

PS: we are not going to tell you who is going to take the free kicks because we don't know!

Who are famous Wednesday players over the years. Peter Springett in the distant past. Chris Waddle of missed penalty fame. And Peter Swan for other reasons. You might want to take Matt Sparrow on loan. He is seriously a good player. There is a clause in his contract says that he has to do bird (play for birdie clubs) and he is too good for Palace or Torquay, and Norwich have not come calling.

Wednesday will have to developed their ground with a maxim 30,000 capacity. It'll cost them more than any owner will consider shelling out. They are living in their past and should wake up to reality. We are miles ahead and will be for the foreseeable future.

I don't think they will be surprised with how far we have come, i think they will be surprised at how far the Championship has come in the last few years. It has to be one of the top 10 divisions in Europe now? So many teams that have realistic ambitions of reaching the Prem. IMO anyway.

Income old boy. We sell 16,000 pints every home game and Wednesday have said they'd be lucky to sell that in a season. Our income is massive, mind boggling compared to theirs, so how are they funding their players transfers and wages? Its unsustainable but we all know that the ex pompey chairman is doing it, shit or bust. Their ground is in decline and will need a major overhaul eventually which the dodgy chairman will not pay. Wednesday are doing a Cardiff and there'll be only one loser, the TAX PAYER.

That would be great. But, i'd be happy with a 1-0. I do believe we have a far better team right now though, especially in depth, and i believe we will win. But even if we do lose, i suggest that most Albion fans will take defeat on the chin, unlike the Wendys, who will still call us tin pot even if we tonk em 5-0. Unlike the Wendys, we, as fans have been through the wringer alot over the last few years, just being in a position to challenge for promotion to the top flight is enough for me. The Wendys seem to think they have a devine right to be there already through past (and i mean PAST) glories.
