Any incoming manager taking over from Souness would not have chosen to spend £26 million on Luque and Owen, one of them perhaps but not both.

Why not? They needed a striker, they needed a left winger.

What, like Mourinho / Ferguson / Wenger / Jol / Benitez did?

They've all got strikers already.

Do you imagine any of those managers taking over from Souness being pissed off because Owen is there. In those shoes I would be delighted.

who does?
Newcastle did, they've got them now in Luque and Owen.

Spurs probably do as well though.

You do but why so many central players?

Davids
Carrick
Taino
Mendes
Brown
Davis
Huddlestone

And possibly Jenas. Seems a bit excessive.

"a new manager will take them to the dizzy heights that Bobby Robson did"??

er, what dizzy heights are they then?

Sixth place in the Premiership and two humiliatingly easy defeats in the FA Cup semi finals?

Newcastle have won chuff all since the 1960s. Clubs who have won major trophies since Newcastle last lifted any silverware of note include:

Coventry City (FA Cup 1987)
Wimbledon (FAC 1988)
Sheffield Wednesday (League Cup 1990 odd)
Aston Villa (likewise)
Manchester City (FAC 1960something)
West Ham (FAC 1970something)
Southampton (FAC 1977)
And, FFS, Luton Town! (LC 1998)

And let's not forget even the mighty Swindon Town have won the League Cup more recently than the so called massive club that is Newcastle.

So I'm not sure why people think they should be up there, unless it's because of their large support, in which case Wednesday, Villa and Everton should be facing the same expectations.

Why aren't we on this list Edna

do you not regard the Divivisoon 3 Championship, the Division 2 Championship and the Division 2 Play off Final trophies to be "major" trophies.

certainly more "major" than the poxy League Cup IMHO in which we do fank all

Let's hope we get Newcastle in the Cup at home !

Hinch should be fit by January.

Newcastle are always a good bet, because they usually think they are better than they really are. We have beaten the Gazza team on their own ground so beating the curent Newcastle should not be beyond our bounds. Albeit now we have won a game, the first for a long time, and only the third or fourth since last January.
