Sorry if this has been said already as I've only just seen it in yesterday's Argus, but apparently Owain fon Williams has been released by Rochdale.

I have no idea why but he was HIGHLY rated not long back.

This isn't a 'could do a job?' thread. Just curious how such a talented keeper has somehow been released. Has it all gone downhill for him since Stockport?

Talented young keeper who lost confidence and lost his way playing on that awful pitch at Edgeley Park. I thought he had resurrected his career at Rochdale and was performing very consistently for them week in week out so I'm really surprised he has gone! Must be a story there somewhere..............

And yet Gus has already said he is completely happy with our current keepers for next year. Good thread in every other respect though.

He did say this isn't a 'could do a job thread'. Just wondering how Fon Williams career has spiralled to such a state that Rochdale are releasing him.

When I was a kid I spent two seasons in goal before switching to play at full back because I didn't grow tall enough. Did some "proper" training with Brighton Boys and the Albion and the emphasis was all on angles and crosses. I do wonder if nowadays they forget to teach youngsters how to catch the ball because keepers with a physical presence in the box are so rare?

Were you also taught how to angle your fingers?

Interesting that Robbie Williams has been released as well, one of the best dead ball specialists in the lower leagues, must be a shit defender though?

just spoke to a dale fan, he said he's a good stop stopper but flaps at crosses and that's why he thinks they're releasing him.

so, just to rock the boat, maybe he's not that good?

sounds a bit like ankergren

Maybe it shows that you shouldn't get too excited about these big hyped players without actually having seen much of them?

Everyone on NSC was desperate to sign him a couple of years ago.

Not a bad singer either although I wish he hadn't rejoined Take That.

I know it's predictable but someone had to say it!
