Fon is one of those weird prefixes that North Wales people put in front of some surnames (the most popular being Ap) - As far as I know it doesn't mean anything, just put there to confuse English people :lolol:

But Ap means something, I've no idea what Fon means. Gogs are just strange people.

just means "of" as in "of the family, Williams"

In French it would be "de" or "de la" and in German "von"

probably a personal affectation to make his name stand out.
the commonly used "ap" means "son of"

In the slang dictionary FON means 'freak of nature'.

Fon Williams is rated as one of, if not the best keeper in this division. If I could have any player in this division I would have Fon Williams, as I think a large part of our defensive issues are due to poor goalkeeping and communication.

Sign him up :clap2:

I don't however believe we have any chance of signing him

Welsh for "from" is "o" or "oddi"
He's a Gog so it's bound to something weird - I know a few Welsh speakers, I'm going to find out

I'm a Gog, and I always thought that it was just a Welsh spelling of Vaughan.
The proper spelling has the "to bach" (translation: little roof) (actually called the circumflex) over the o in "Fon", which stretches the sound of the "o".
So Owain Fon Williams is the Welsh spelling of Owen Vaughan Williams... I reckon.
:sheep:

Used to go out with a girl from Caernarfon (his neck of the woods), she was a right tart!

Yeah his surname is Fon Williams although FIFA 10 has it wrong and has his surname down as just Williams.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone snatched him up or Raynes. I guess we'll just bring in loans to replace anyone who goes. Got to say we are all quite happy with the loans we have brought in over the weekend. I think we will just be surviving on loans until someone saves us (if it ever happens :( )

He has had a nightmare in the meantime - his form was shot to hell playing behind one of the worst defences in the league and on a pitch that gives no-one a chance and his confidence was down to less than zero. Goalkeepers don't go from being good to absolutely useless though and I can't see why he won't recover his form and quite possibly move on up from there

A year on, and now he's at Rochdale....

Weird how things pan out. 18 months ago he could have realistically moved to any club in the country outside of the premiership, and now he's been on loan to Bury and landed up at Rochdale.

Its quite interesting, to revisit the Bennett situation in this light. We're all thinking "What's the rush - he should stay here for another year / 18 months, improve his game further and see where that takes him". An injury or two, loss of form, and a player's career doesn't always follow a smooth upward path. You can see why they are tempted by decent moves when they come up.

But we also assume the players have the same affinity to the club we do. Aside the transfer value as us mere mortals don't often get transferred to another place of work, if someone came up to you and said "Would you come and work for us, same job etc and we are willing to double your wages?" I think the majority of us would say to our current boss "Thanks for the everything but I am off to Company A". Why should we treat footballers any different? If Bennett does indeed go then I wish him well for the future.
