Overheard conversation on a train....

A few days back I heard two Australian guys talking, you tell me if this is bullshit or not but it did make me hoot.
Went along the lines of one of them knew someone who recently went scuba diving, apparently he ascended too quick and it made his arse blow out (!!? ) which caused his wetsuit to fill with shit. Then this bloke had to spend 3 days in a compression chamber covered in his own cack.

True or not, I had a fit of the giggles there and then.

well yea if you surface too quick you get the bends and have to go in a decompression chamber if you survive but im not sure if one of the symtpons is violently shitting yourself.

You sure you hadn't fallen asleep and were dreaming about your most secret fantasy?

When you are underwater, as you descend the air spaces in the body compress due to the pressure, mostly this is the ears/sinuses and lungs. When you ascend the air expands.
I'm guessing, but if you had a stomach upset causing wind, then as you ascended, the gas would expand. If there was poo between the expanding gas and the exit, then I suppose it could get fired out a bit rapido.

Which is why when you descend you are continually equalizing the pressure in your ears.
When ascending, the ears automatically equalize themselves (hopefully).
The important rules of diving are to never hold your breath, (not allowing your lungs to "burst" when ascending), and ascend at no more than 12m per minute (to help avoid decompression sickness)
As for the bowel, I hope to never find out, but it sounds a load of shit.

.

I was told by my instructor that a good guide is to go up slower than your bubbles (when breathing out) If you go up at the same rate or faster, you're in trouble.

Never go scuba diving if you need fillings or have sinus problems. The pain can be unbearable. However, i found that when i got to about 15m, the pain stopped !!!

Never heard the drysuit full of your own poo story when I was diving, but there was one about a womans silcone breast implant exploding on the way up doing the rounds. Jordan be warned.

More likely he shat himself when he got into difficulty rather than as a side effect of surfacing too quickly...
