I saw my first Albion game exactly 50 years ago against Bristol Rovers. We won by a single goal. Tidey put a shot from inside the penalty area over the South Stand at the Goldstone. Both teams got relegated from Division Two. Bobby Smith scored in the FA Cup Final that year. The next season was even worse for the Albion.

Mark Lawrenson was the best player.
Peter Ward was the most exciting player.

The first two seasons we got relegated. The signing of Bobby Smith was a real saviour, although he was not as good as his repiutation.
The most dispiriting point was the sale of the Chris Cattlin team which was quite good and if we had the play-offs then the history could have been different.
The first nine years were a bit boring until the beginning of the seventies. The late seventies were great because we were playing good football and not losing many home games. The disappointment was we were successful during a recession and we could not get a car together for the longer away games like Anfield.
The first two seasons in the top flight were the best.

You've a few years on me, but did see one game in the top flight as a kid. Highlight for me over last 25 has to be the back to back promotions. Lowest (and to some exent highest) - Hereford away.

I might be the first to say but I was not all that impressed with Bobby Smith. It was exciting to see 20,000+ in the ground for the first time. Willie Irvine in 1971 was a much more elegant target man goal scorer and before that Alex Dawson was a better bruiser.
Then there was the rivalry between the high scoring Fred Binney and Dixie McNeil and who was the best in 1975-76. But after 50 seconds at Edgar Street is obvious that neither of them were.
And how did the Seagulls chant start. I would say it was spontaneous, like minds responding to the Eagles chant.
Supporters that caused most acrimony were (and still are) Chelsea, Spurs, Palace and West Ham.
The best goal I have seen live was Peter Ward's against Mansfield in the seventies. But a few since have run that one close.
The most exciting opposing player seen was Rodney Marsh.

This was the first game I remember and it was an absolute belter as Burnley were one of the top sides in the 1st Division at that time and we were Division 3. If we beat Wrexham, the 4th round is on Jan 28th 2012 so it will be 51 years since my first game.
One day I am going to write a book about my experiences as a Brighton fan. I have an elephantine memory for the matches that I have seen over the years.

Have to confess, I was 6 when I first went to the Goldstone back in 1953 but the first game where I can remember the team we were playing was in 1954 against Tonbridge.
The exciting days for a youngster were in the late 50's with massive crowds when we were promoted from the Division 3 South. With regular crowds, it seemed, of over 30,000, the kids were allowed over the wall to sit on the old "track". I was also there in the record crowd of 36,747 when we beat Fulham in the Boxing Day fixture in 1958, I think, 3-1.
