Seeing as there are one or two people on line, I have had a proposition to clean ovens on my days off. I know what the person charges, which I will not reveal, but I would like to gauge a going rate.

Many thanks for your time.

You are probably looking at a half an hour job, give or take. When you take all things into consideration (travel, work hours etc), I would probably pay the person £20 at the very most.

Never mind ovens, the future's in ice-box defrosting IMHO. Worth a fiver of anybody's money to watch ice melt and stop it swamping in melted form into every kitchen nook and cranny.

Oven cleaning people are the biggest rip off merchants in the country. My mother (who has some diva style tendencies) had some dude to come in and clean her domestic gas aga type thing and it was £95. Apparently that is cheap as well.

Bit of elbow grease and some hob brite costs a fiver.

So when Mrs P says to me "I'll defrost the freezer darling, you clean the oven", she is actually being nice to me because the freezer is a bigger pain? Riiiiiiiight

Not talking about freezers. Talking about an itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny icebox about six inches by four that acts like Polar Global Warming in reverse. Bastard thing is Ice City within days of being defrosted. I mean, if I try to open it (with both hands) the fridge lifts off the ground before the ice yields. That CAN'T be right surely? ???

Just goes to show the educational powers of NSC. Before this thread I never in my wildest DREAMS imagined that oven's had to be cleaned at all, let alone that it was a task so reviled there are people willing to sub-contract out that work. Learn something every day... :dunce:

Or you buy one with a self cleaning button, which while it stinks, does the job for you.

Oven cleaning is a real pain and is more than a half hour job. Unsure what it is worth though - you would have to clean a lot of ovens in a week to make a living from it.

Blimey! How on EARTH does that work? What can a single button, smelly or non-smelly, possibly do that removes all the bits of gunky cheese and grease and cremated veggies from all oveny crevices. Don't believe you, you just made that UP! ???

Cover everything in foil and the oven walls don't get dirty.
