[Albion] Outbreak of laryngitis in the north stand?

Thought the North was fine in the first half but f*** me, that second half was depressing.

N.B. Anyone who's suggesting that the North doesn't have an obligation to lead the chanting and create an atmosphere needs to give their head a wobble
The North take that responsibility on,
But there are 3 times as many fans in the West stand and they contribute next to nothing.

The limitations of the North Stand has been done to death.
Even with everyone singing in unison it won't generate the levels required, without the rest of the stands stepping up too.

The teenagers who sit behind me. It was a tad incoherent to be fair.

I'm going to be controversial here and say the singing, across the piece, was fine.

I also enjoyed the game (up to the sending off) and I left at 85 minutes. It was what it was
Yeah largely agree with you. But the Amex has been unusually quiet recently.

Unfortunately there just aren't enough people in the North for it ever to make the noise our fans want it to.
The only way we will ever make the levels of noise that will be deemed acceptable is for the West stand to step up and contribute to comparable levels of the North.

The play off semi, against Sheff Wednesday was magnificent.
Only because the West stand played their part.
The North can never match that. 10,000 fans singing will always outdo 3500.
Is the right answer. The North stand is too small. It isn't intimidating.

“Recognised singing section” that sums up everything that’s wrong with modern football matches !

Really ?
You’re at a football match, if you want to sing just sing
I do.

But no-one joins in 😂

You obviously never went to the Goldstone, as it didn’t need to be designated, as everyone knew it was the north stand, as it is generally now.
Not that difficult 😃👍

I could pick half a dozen posts to quote but I’ll just say this instead. In every football club in the top four divisions I can think of the home “end” leads the singing and everyone else round the sides joins in. Sound won’t project from the back of the WSU back to an end, it has to start there and go round like a wave.

Nevertheless I’m in G block of WSU and atmosphere in there and H is often every bit as good as any time I’ve been in the North. I go in there every home cup game and it’s blatantly true that either side of the goal ignores the other one. You can hear them just fine.

If the north wasn’t supposed to lead the singing then standing shouldn’t be allowed in there. It isn’t tolerated anywhere else.

I sit W1F and agree that the WSL is v poor in terms of noise (WSU is better in the bigger games).

But, being more or less equidistant between the North and the South, we very regularly hear away ends make far louder, sustained noise than the North Stand. It's not always the case but I think there is definitely a lot of room for improvement on days such as today...

I obviously did…….and the difference at the goldstone was you grew up on the terraces, there was history, and you could move around and stand with like minded people…..unfortunately we have no history at the Amex, it’ll be a generation before we do…….and obviously you can’t just go and sit with people that are singing

That’s fair.
Would you say there is singing elsewhere then?

I would say there isn’t, and from that perspective modern football terminology or not, the north is the singing section, designated or otherwise.

As per my other posts the issue is more about two separate areas.

Easily solved, but let’s make sure the diversity is proportionate on the first attempt

It really hasn't been.

@atomised sat in the south west corner and posted that the north sounded decent today - what more evidence does anyone need that actually it wasn't a bad atmosphere today? he/she was sat as far away from the North as you can get in the ground. It was good - ebbed and flowed with the game as with vast majority of atmospheres in this country.

Yeah again I largely agree, atmosphere was okay until we got cagey and then Dahoud did his party-piece. But recent games have been quiet in my opinion.

spot on to be fair. I was very aware that the extended SWC today had a fair number of tourists which was to be expected but also made a reasonable noise at times
in actual fact the only stand I felt was quiet was the east. acoustics clearly play a big part in this

North has got worse i think. There's now a third group who try to start singing, right in the North East corner. Which is good but it just means it's even more disjointed as they clearly can't heat the drivel coming from under the box or under the screen.

So Sheffield United outsang the North for 90 minutes did they?

Maybe if you spent your time singing, rather than judging the volumes of the North, it would make the difference?

Do people really think the crowd singing leads to better results on the pitch ? If so Palace would have back to Premier League trophies ! :tears2:
