[Technology] Out of contract with Sky - Tips ?

Hi (sorry there must be existing threads about this - but i couldn't find the right one)

- i'm out of contract
- I'm a longstanding VIP Diamond customer
- I've been offered - for broadband/their paid channels/SKY Q - a discounted price - via email.
- I then rang to see if i could shave off a decent ££ per month via the standard upgrade line. - no luck . same price.
- I then upped things a bit - and went via the retention team - again - despite a lot of bluster and charm from me about cancelling , going to BT / others etc - no luck . same price . They held firm

What are my next steps ? I probably want to stay with Sky. but looking to shave off a decent ££ per month.

Do i have to go ahead and cancel and then wait for the inevitable - Please come back to Sky offer - ? I'm sure they've further to go.

There was a thread a few days ago. The consensus seemed to be cancel and wait for the calls. Frustrating but the way of the world nowadays

Yep. Tell them you want to cancel your existing contract as it has come to an end and the deals are too expensive from the retention team...then sit and wait a few days before Sky call you back....

The offers should then be substantially lower. They don't want to lose your custom but you need to give them the impression you are prepared to leave

Is this the same with NOW tv sports?

Had a 12 month contract on discount that ended 7 days ago, cancelled before auto renew at full rate.
So far no calls or emails begging for me back at same discount I had before.
( don’t watch golf, so not a problem currently)

As a benchmark, I'm with Virgin. I pay £59 a month for broadband and TV (including Sky and BT Sports). I think the offer is about £72 now. But I can't see anything better so will try and renew at the price I'm paying now or a little more.

If the worst happens and you do actually end up cancelling with Sky and leaving them and when you return whatever equipment they request, whatever you do make sure you keep hold of the barcode/tracking receipt for the returned equipment. They can't cope with the amount of stuff being returned to them in terms of processing it all at the moment.

Doesn't work. I had Vorgin Media TV and landline - bought a smart TV - enough on that to keep me happy, though I will miss SSN and the ability to pause and re-wind, so I phoned Virgin to cancl. Very nice about it - sorted out my final (minimal) payment and told me when the service that I'd already paid for would be cut off. Sorted out a cheaper deal for my mobile phone if I switched to someone else (and did it for me) and said goodbye. Very friendly.

Lower price offer? More chance of a shag with [name your particular fantasy shag]!

I was paying £89 a month to Virgin, but without Sky Sports or BT. They obviously didn't think it was worthwhile making me a better offer when I left (I told them it was because it was too expensive).

I’ve been with Sky over twenty years, with very little negotiation I got my bill reduced by over 30% with no real threat to cancel, I just gave a sob story, that I was between jobs so it was my wife now paying the bill and she wanted to get get the bill down as we couldn’t afford it, I told them she wanted to get rid of the sport as she doesn’t watch it (she watches it more than me) however I’d like to keep it but I’m not paying the bill.

Yeah but that's Virgin Media for you

Sky are renowned for giving deals after declaring you're leaving - see Martin Lewis.

And can always pull out and accept their 'best offer' at the last minute - not that I've ever needed to do this with Sky as the deals have been so much better than those offered from the retentions team.

When my Sky renewal came up I flatly refused and then around a week later a guy rang me from India and offered a lower price than I was already paying.

Same with EE and broadband, got a cheaper deal and faster broadband.

NB They get you back as Sky change the price through the contract and EE RPI is way over the current figures

Sky have called my bluff in the past and went along with the cancellation.

As per Martin Lewis advice, I called them two days before disconnection to “query when my last payment was due” said it’s shame I’ve been loyal blah blah

They offered me 30% off what I was paying them on a 18 month contract

Er, you're talking about Virign Media TV, but this thread (and the post you quoted) is about Sky.

I wish i could have got the same deal as Brighton Lines

But Yes i pay £68.75 Sky Sports BT now TNT Sports all movies tv Netflix,extra box Fast internet ,Free sim and other stuff. They say its worth £136 a month told them i was newly unemployed and cant work due to ill health. I couldn't understand what the lady said sadly but i'm happy until the next time.

Virgin. Sky, BT, energy companies, car insurance, other insurance - many of us aren't lucky enough to be handed a decent lower priced deal to persuade us to stay. Mostly it's (very politely) f*** off and find someone cheaper if you can.

It didn't with me. They couldn't match Virgin, even when I went all Tony Bloom on them.

Until a bloke rang up and offered me £58 a month for Broadband, TV and Sports.

What he didn't tell me was that broadband going to be charged six months in. I rang up, cancelled, and made a formal complaint about all the time it had cost me sorting the mess out. They couldn't have cared less.
