The police are afraid to tackle them. It seems to be the same everywhere, not just in Brighton. How many of their (motorised) vehicles are taxed and insured? - it seems it doesn't matter; they never get towed away and crushed. Probably a human rights issue, which they'd win every time at Brussels.

They were about 20 groups up near the racecourse stood outside the pub mid afternoon, their horse boxes badly parked and the horses grazing by the roadside

I can assure you there were many more today. It took a few minutes for them to pass and at times they were two and three abreast, and yes they were racing.

Colourful maybe but: licenced probably not, dangerous yes, and respectful of our roads and traffic laws definitely no.

Don't know where they came from or where they went but nothing about them seemed legal.
I used to drive a pony and trap, and I don't recall any licensing requirements. Have things changed in recent years?

Pony and trap, I have one most days but not ten all at once.:lolol:
Yes we went to Brighton on sunday and we were held up by a pony and trap going towards the pier, the way they were driving it you would of thought that they were no cars on the road, it was all over the shop.

Maybe the Argus hasn't gone through all the NSC posts yet?

probably not, and like I said "licenced (sic) probably not"

there's a difference between a pony and trap trotting along a country lane at a leisurely pace and respecting other road users, and an "organised" group racing along the A259 at one of the busiest roundabouts in Brighton ignoring the safety of other road users and pedestrians.
