Stop being a bellend. Virgs was a great defender for a struggling team without a pot to piss in. You don't earn a million pound plus move to a regular champions league contending club by being 'not very good'

Weren't listening? It's my opinion on one player. I didn't think he was very good as was the same for the majority of the squad. We were a decent league 1 side who stole 2 years in the championship largely down to the hard work of the side.

Granted he's had injury problems but he left Celtic to play for the worst brighton team of the last 15 years Colchester. Yeovil. Bristol rovers amongst others.

You just don't get it do you? He sacrificed himself as a defender for us. He gave that up for two years and played up front at McGhee's request to try and help us make it in the championship, one of which he did exactly that and kept us up. He was an excellent defender before that in an excellent league one side (not just decent). The fact you mention the injury problems, yeovil and colchester sums it up. That was all later. He was an outstanding defender before he went up front.

He was a very good defender. You forgot Coventry in the Championship.

FDM definitely get in our team. Kuipers is universally acknowledged as one of our all time greats - just ask Chez - and I won't entertain anyone arguing anything less as they're obviously unhinged and not worth the ink.

My god, a decade has already passed and I remember it like yday. I was there to see Bryan Wade score 4 and Malengo's goal is another Albion 'folklore' goal from a mysterious striker! Thing I also remember from that game was plastic bottled fosters which at the time was brilliantly sensible way of serving fans quickly - and we took a few!

I'm with Brighton Boy - Virgo quite rightly is well regarded and loved by most Brighton fans, wholehearted, versatile putting the clubs needs before his own and scoring one of the most memorable goals in Albion history. However positionally he was all over the shop defensively, had little pace and distribution was poor. The 1.5 million fee was incredible and as alluded to a case of the McGhee Strachan friendship.

He wasn't a poor player but he certainly wasn't very good and in the 25 years supporting the Albion I can think of numerous better centre halves better than him:-

That gentlemen's agreement helped the Albion out of one helluva financial hole at the time. Don't recall a single person at the time who thought he was worth anywhere near that much.

I certainly thought he was better as a right back also. I think people are skimming over what I've said here. I haven't said he's terrible just not that good. Not that good to me means average and that was his level as was the case with most of the squad then.
