She wanted to banish pessimism, but she couldn't take the heat as she was totally out of her depth. Leadsom - The tinpot lady who is for turning.

Read a statement on why she's pulling out then some div reporter asks ''why are you changing your mind''. Did she have her fingers in her ears ?

So when does Theresa May become Prime Minister, immediately or do we still need to wait until October?

1922 committee to make statement soon. Either they bring Gove back from the dead (not what anyone wants), or annoint May (not what she wanted).

But at least we haven't got an unelected politcal machine making decisions for us anymore, eh kids.

The Queen is in Scotland. Cameron has to tender his resignation to her. Once Cameron's spotted on an EasyJet flight to Edinburgh, we'll know he's on his way.

It looks as though it'll be today, unless it's brought to the Tories attention that their own rules indicate that they can't just announce a coronation: it's apparently the 'duty' of the 1922 Committee to find another candidate to contest the election (see @JolyonMaugham for relevant tweet).
Which means they'll either ignore their rules, or we're about to witness the return of Gove.

If they decide to be a politician, they don't have a wide choice of parties to choose from. I imagine plenty are closer to the middle of the two parties than you think.

on individual policy matters thats very true - there are few of the old socialist or tories around anymore. however items like statism, individualism, liberalism, there are deep divides that steer a would-be politician on their choice of party. example, Clegg moving from Conservative researcher to Liberal, Labour wouldn't have suited him at all

as i understand it, the 1922 can adjust the rules as the circumstances dictate. a return to Gove would be for show, May would easily win (i dont really take the Leadsom challenge seriously anyway).
