England fans were fighting at Wembley and smashing up Leicester Square before they’d lost the game though.

There was no fighting at Wembley of genuine 'fan on fan'. There was people helping stewards to stop the fire exits being over run by ticketless fans

Yes, I know. But the whole mindset of that particular type of " Fan " is to be confrontational and pretty obnoxious simply because they are there for the trouble win or lose. What sort of " fan " decides to storm the ground without a ticket?.

A couple of lads at my work who are reasonably sensible were saying they wanted to go to London for the match without a ticket, or anywhere to stay and no idea of how they might get back from London at midnight on a Sunday night....but, they had got swept up by the hype generated by a few good performances and a media that seemed desperate to keep pushing the superlatives higher and higher with little balance and an attitude that if you had realistic or negative views on the team you were viewed as " unpatriotic ".

Was there last night and Wembley way was awful, knee deep in rubbish, smashed dickheads and chavs everywhere. Nothing like the relative civility of when we played Man City.

There is a lack of character underclass in this country, scumbags if you will that always ruin it and taint our reputation. I agree that WC2030 looks dead because of these idiots and the security was shocking. First Denmark with the laser, now all this rubbish...... Let down by moronic chavs again.

But it's always been like this, I was in town centre when we went out to Germany on pens at Italia 90, and riots happened, saw bins going through a window on North Street, went into middle Street and fellas turn a car over...... I just hope CCTV can help nail these idiots.

Listening to 606 after, one English fella was in the section where the gatecrashers entered and he said there were smashed thugs trying to force families with kids to move up the rows, many of whom were terrified and he said when Italy scored, 2 Italians in the section started Cheering and 2 of the English scumbags, who he described as huge thugs you'd never look at, kicked the crap out of the Italians, who were bleeding and bruised..... This caller said he'd video'd the italians getting beaten up on his GoPro, so he went to concourse to find stewards/old bill...... Showed it to a copper, but they never did anything....his account.

So much of me is proud to be an Englishman but I'm also embarrassed to be an Englishman all too often.

There is a smattering of comments on various NSC threads mocking the criticism of the yobs. Have a look at Das Reich's post today. When a tiny minority of morons on NSC think its funny to be violent and racist, imagine how it is in the wider world populated by people who, unlike Das Reich most of the time, can't keep their racist chav metaphorical dicks in their trousers.

I was at the game and just to balance things out....

Yes there was drunk tomfoolery before the match but it was hardly that bad and mostly friendly banter.

Yes a few people stormed the ground. But I'm sure that would happen anywhere not just England. The security was not good enough.

I saw lots of great banter between England and Italy fans and very little booing for their anthem

Don't get caught up in the hype

Neville is way off.

It's almost as if he's saying a jingoistic, populist, racist, bandwagon jumper with a pathological need to be loved which is so out of control it'll end it absolute hate, is running the country.

Sorry but it wasn't just 'drunk tomfoolery' before the match.

I saw yobs up lampposts lobbing bottle and cans about whilst the Police watched on.

Agree there was very little booing of the Italian Anthem.

I took my (then 8 y/o) son to Wembley for the Man City semi-final and we had a great day. Some of the most memorable moments were walking down Wembley Way together , walking around the outside of the stadium before the turnstiles opened and just soaking in the atmosphere in our seats when we finally got inside.

Those who were out for a more boisterous beer-fueled experience were doing so - and obviously having a great time - but without effecting our experience negatively and were pretty accommodating of a bloke (me) out with his young son. Loads asking if my lad was having a good time and giving him flags and making sure he could see ok. Just so glad I wasn't there last night, either with him or on my own, come to that.

I'd love to take him to an England game at Wembley one day. Hopefully the knobheads only come out for the big occasions and won't be bothered by upcoming qualifiers or friendlies.

A complete and utter shambles yesterday.

From the 18 year olds in Hi-Viz all the way up to the Head of the Police and the Mayor of London there have to be some serious questions asked about what happened in and around Wembley yesterday.

We got to Wembley Park Tube station really early - well before 5pm - knowing it would be busy (and my son likes to get in the ground as soon as possible to put his flag up) and Wembley Way was full of pissed groups of lads, clearly ticketless with cases of beer just lobbing stuff about. I knew then there would be trouble as it was getting well out of hand even over three hours before Kick Off.

Of course, whilst theses idiots were entirely the people to blame the police are there to police - not stand aside and watch this going on.

There were zero ID Checks, and even at the COVID Checks were a joke too.

I haven't got time now to list everything else that went on but whoever took the decision to police this in a softly-softly approach needs their arse kicking.

It's a general comment about respect, behaviour and decency. I'm not making that much of a leap between someone happy to boo whatever it is before a game, and other behaviours to be honest. Must ordinary people don't go booing national anthems or symbols of equality, they just don't.

You’re right, I certainly don’t. But I also don’t sing songs disrespecting referees, northern towns or opposition players. By the logic you are using we would also have to do away with all of this as it takes people on a pathway to the behavior of last night. Again, it seems quite a leap to see this sort of causality.

I'm guessing you were a perfect angel when you were a young lad pumped up on booze and testosterone

I do a lot of things for fun……..but hurling a plant pot across Leicester Square has never crossed my mind. What am I missing?
