Our Goalkeeping situation is dire!

At the beginning of the season, we had, IMHO, 2 of the best goalkeepers in the division - Ben Roberts and Michel Kuipers.

During the season, I have become more and more disappointed with both of their performances. I am not naive enough to realise that our defence is also at fault but a good goalkeeper should make some of saves that have been goals.

Both men are better than they have been playing and it needs sorting. Our goals conceeded is terribly high and maybe they need more training to sort out the mistakes.

I for one hope Kuipers doesn't go. There will be no-one to take the place for Roberts when he gets injured, he is a great player for the squad, he CAN play better then this, and I love looking at his legs ;)

I am really feeling disappointed with the whole squad apart from Knight, who tries his damn hardest every match. But it needs to be sorted now. These two men are great goalkeepers but haven't been showing it of late.

They need a kick up the a***. I wouldn't mind being the one to give them that!

Agreed, other than the legs thing.

It does seem that the competition for the Number one jersey has made both keepers nervous and prone to errors.

I think we have two excellent keepers who have dipped in form, but then so have the defence (and indeed the rest of the team). I wouldn't swop them.

Well for one i think FDM is a far better keeper and should be left to have a decent run in the team

Am seriously worried about the prospect of FDM going. I do think, in general, Roberts is the better keeper but there is definitely an injury concern with him. He took an awkward fall on Saturday and I thought he was about to come off. If he is out for a few games, we will be running around trying to bring in an experienced keeper and it's not as if we are having that much luck at securing an experienced outfield loanee at the moment......

think you need to look at the defence more than the keepers,
keeper had no chance with this weekends goal, but there were two unmaked headed goals and a one on one with the keeper?that got to be the back fours job to keep them out

400k ! Id be made up with half that.

Seriously though, I agree that the competition between the 2 has affected both there games rather than spur it on.

Roberts for me is the better keeper all round and deserves a run in the side.
Im dissapointed that Kuipers has come out straight away and said he would like a move if hes not in the side.

Was Roberts fully fit on Saturday? His reactions to at least two goals looked slow. Whatever, I suspect the reason Kuipers will be sold is because he is a sellable asset. Roberts is not. IF he goes, any money from THIS sale, MUST go into team strengthening.

I think you'll find I mentioned that! The defence is poor, but as I said earlier on, there are some goals that both men should have saved, but didn't due to mistakes.

I agree with the others who say that the competition for the number 1 jersey has gone the wrong way and both goalies are too nervous when they play a game.:(

They are both suffering a dip in form, but it has been a seriously dramatic one. Even though they're both great goalkeepers on their day, you can't afford to keep TWO such erratic ones IMHO.

I think that we should sell one of them - and unfortunately I think it will be Michel as Taylor will pay for him.

We should then get in a more consistent keeper (someone like Beasant as cover for when Roberts gets injured or if he starts dribbling out of his box again) and start seriously training up May or whoever is coming up through the ranks at the moment.

It's not quite as bad as the Rust and Omerond era where if you added their best attributes together you'd still come up with the worst-ever Albion keeper.

Still not sure who I prefer out of Roberts and Kuipers. Possibly 55-45 in favour of FDM.

Have you completely forgotten Mark "free header" Walton??

I think the point is we are a second division club and we cannot afford to keep two keepers who are at least Div 1 standard.

But if Kuipers does want to go McGhee will only sell for a decent fee (ie enough to get cover in plus some funds for another player).

Personaly I would like them both to stay but I just don't think its realistic.

I am horrified at the prospect of FDM being sold, that would be a disaster. Roberts looks dreadful at the moment, when he should be fighting for his place. Let FDM go and Coco is the automatic no.1, time for him to rest on his laurels and not really perform.

IMHO, FDM is clearly the best keeper. Sell him and I will be aghast.
