So if Chippy is fit what is our best four in midfield?
I have only seen one game this season (Wigan) and we were poor ... but now things are improving and the new guys settling ... waht will be our best midfield?

I wouldn't change what we have at the moment - even when Chippy is fit.

Id go for:

Jarrett Nicholas Hammond Currie

then carpenter on the bench. hammond has done nothing wrong to lose his place.

I'll leave it to McGhee, what a great problem to have.

id play currie on the right and jarrett on the left with nicolas and hammond in the centre, and chippy on the bench.

I would look at 2 options , depending on the quality of opposition
and the state of the match

Going for it:

Jarrett Nicholas Hammond Currie

Keeping it tighter:

Currie Nicholas Hammond Hinshelwood

At work - probably
I'd play Rodger on the left and Reid on the right if we were 'keeping it tight'

Attacking:- Currie Nicolas/Reid Hammond/Chippy Jarrett

Defensive:- Reid/Hart Nicolas/Oatway Hammond/Chippy Rodger

It would be a bold move to leave out Chippy: he's been one of our best (if not the best) players over the past few seasons.

I agree: it's a nice problem for McGhee to have.

All the while we are getting results, I think it would be tough to leave out either Nicolas or Hammond.

I really like the way Hammond nits the midfield together, nothing special, just keeps the game flowing for us. Really puts me in mind of Michael Carrick the way he plays.

Difficult to call, but I would sart with...

Currie, Nicolas, Hammond, Jones / Harding...

Jarrett to come on for Jones / Harding if we are going for it... I would certainly drop Hinsh... Currie on the right is his best position, IMHO...

I would only play Carpenter and Rodger if they are fully fit and one or more of our current midfield has a run of poor games. Both of them should fight for their places in the team, Rodger especially, who was no great shakes, as I recall, in the few games that he played last year before getting injured.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying that midfield should play Tuesday or Saturday.

That wasn't the question. The question was 'what is our best midfield'?

When fully fit it has to be Currie - Carpenter - Nicolas - Rodger IMHO.
