That’s amazing. Our away support in the Withdean years to stadia just a few hours away was immense.

Must say, I do find it a bit annoying that a lot of younger fans see clubs like Portsmouth take good away followings in League 1 and say they have great support, but because we weren’t there in the days of Instagram and Twitter, the same doesn’t get said about us!

League 1 Championship winning season -

Sheffield Wednesday - 1,037
Charlton Athletic - 3,394 (although was probably one like 4,000 I reckon)
Peterborough United - 2,519
Southampton - 3,105
Bournemouth - 2,308
Watford - 3,649
Leyton Orient - 1,955
Bristol Rovers - 1,058
Stoke City - 3,450
MK Dons - 2,086
Brentford - 1,737
Walsall - 2,322
Colchester United - 1,070
Notts County - (haven’t gotten the numbers, but I think it was about 3-4,000)

West Brom 0 - 2 BHA.
League Cup 1976.
We gave them a footballing lesson that evening, and their frustration finally boiled over with Willie Johnston being sent off

There used to be a youtube video of the goals that evening.

With 2,000 Albion fans, included those who travelled by two football specials.

Division Three Albion beat a team containing Johnny Giles, Willie Johnston, Tony Brown, John Wile and Ali Brown.

I organised a coach from The Hungry Years for that game.
It was a raucous journey home.

The Liverpool wins in 81-82 and 82-83 were both great results, but the 1-0 win away to Nottingham Forest in 1979 ended their long unbeaten run at the City Ground and was the beginning of our revival that season. We were bottom of the table without an away win and they were reigning European champions, so it was an astounding result. Mark Lawrenson came back from injury, Peter Suddaby added know-how and solidity at the back and Graham Moseley saved a penalty.
