Went for the first time on bonfire night last week. Being run at by some West Country nutter with a flaming barrel down a small crowded road – it was certainly an experience.

Anyone else on here ever been?

I thought it was an anagram like the Fawlty Towers' sign - 'Flay Otters' or Flowery Twats'

It took me ages before I realised it didn't actually say anything. I guess I should have read what you wrote.

Went about 7 or 8 years ago when the wife and I were on a short break near Honiton. The most amazing thing was that no-one seemed to get hurt despite there being a large number of people in the way of a burning barrel rolling at them.

BTW Exeter, is the Otter brewery still going? I always enjoyed the Otter Ale whenever we went down Devon way

Think my younger brother may have gone when he was at university at Exeter. By the way, has anyone ever been to the Ashbourne (Derbyshire) football match? I understand that is equally as mad.

That's where the word local "derby" comes from, I believe...

It is certainly true that it is not just the burning barrels that could cause an incident it is the fact it is so busy that people can’t get out of the because it is so crowded. In terms of the brewery I am afraid I don’t know.

Probably did I know last year the halls of residences ran coach trips there.
