FC St Pauli beat 1.FC Koln Amateurs 2-0 on Friday night. First game for the first team since 11th December, I could never put up with a winter break for that long.

Game was played in near blizzard conditions with a 10 minute pause during the second half to allow the groundstaff to clear the snow off the pitch markings.

Nice end to the day considering there was a chance the club could have been wound up that day due to the 1 million euro tax "oversight". The crunch meeting with the taxmen has been put back to this friday so it looks like I'll be spending another week reading comedy translations of the Hamburg Morgen Post.

Town had a very creditable win, 1-0 at home to Blackpool...Luke Beckett ( remember him) scored for Town and missed a penalty.

All in all a great weekend

How could anyone forget..?

See... it's not just me.

Chasing up the result for my other second team, US Montalcino, I came across this report on their website:-

1 MONTALCINO - MONTERIGGIONI 0

INFLUENZA, INJURIES, MATTEO FRANCHI SIDE-LINED
BUT WE STILL MANAGED TO WIN!

MONTALCINO: Here we go again, this time Beltrami had to do without Carli, Franchi, Varca, Celio and Rinaldi. "Crazy" Cristian Petrullo, Yuri Magnani and Massimo Del Giusto, all half fit, with the flu still lingering. Fortunately, Monteriggioni were missing three of their players - outed for today's game because of their yellow card collection over the past few games.

Our expectations: a win .... Monteriggioni's expectations: a win .....

The game attendance: very poor but understandable because of the HISTORIC match being played forty-five kilometers north! The dreaded FLORENTINES were once again, doing battle with the SIENESE! In the year 1260 the Sienese met the Florentines at the Battle of Monteaperti .... the result, a win for the Sienese, thousands of Florentines slaughted, humiliated, and a vow that they would return to take their revenge. SEVEN HUNDRED & FORTY FIVE YEARS later, here they are again! This time on the football field at Siena's home ground, and nothing's changed!

1 SIENA - FIRENZE 0

Oh, you want to know about OUR game ..... well, quite honestly with both sides far from full strength, a rain affected, slippery field, and a less than average crowd attendance, one could not expect to witness an exciting, nerve wracking, on-the-edge-of-your-seat game. Several possibilities from our guys - Dezi, Petrullo, Righini all had scoring opportunities but failed to put the ball where it counted, IN the net. "Crazy" Cristian Petrullo's curving drive over a defensive wall came very close and was barely kept out by a diving Monteriggioni goalkeeper. BUT, the one that counted was Yuri's penalty. In the 29th minute of the first half, Nicolo Dezi sped down the right wing chasing a loose ball ... a Monteriggioni defender floored Nicolo in the penalty area and so, a penalty awarded to Montalcino. Yuri drove a powerful ground hugging shot to the right .... the Monteriggioni goalkeeper went to the left and GOAL!

The remainder ..... not an exciting game but never-the-less the "ragazzi" deserved the three points ... they never stopped trying, they chased, they defended.

I was just remembering 1559. True fans haven't forgotten 1260.

Marvellous scenes.

Corporate sponsorship - Causeway didn't want any mention of Adams Park in the name. There is still a stained glass window with Adams Park written on it though.
