Organising a trip for some mates to a game in Europe. Never done it before but I guess it is cheaper to do it yourself rather than buy a package.

I fancy going to Lazio or Real Madrid. Any others worth a look and anyone got any advice on how best to sort tickets etc?

Cheers.

Personally I think Lazio is a horrid place.

Paddy went to Dortmund to watch the derby against Schalke and they organised it all themselves, emailed the club for how best to get tickets and then the ticket office staff met them at a bar and handed over the tickets. They have a 25,000 people terrace or something. They arranged it all themselves flights, hotel, tickets and it was pretty cheap for a few days break. Anyway, they had a really great time, the city isn't anything special but they had lots of good beer and a good time, he'd really recommend going.

Starry beat me to it ... Borussia Dortmund, cheap flights, cheap match tickets, cheap beer. Went for my stag do last year with 15 lads ... it was the TITS.

No, Rome is OK. The Stadio Loimpico, the club and the people there are horrid. Far better grounds/clubs to visit in Europe for a weekends jolly.
I always thought the Stadio Olympico didn't look anything special. Was surprised they held the 1990 World Cup Final there, should definately have been in Milan. Now THATS a stadium I'd love to visit.

Interesting that two of Richie's three choices are clubs noted for some of the worst excesses of violence in Europe.

Personally, I would love to go to Rome (not been yet), but I'd always have it in mind to give Lazio a wide swerve. Also, Rotterdam is an absolute hole of a place.

I would base my choices on the nature the city (whether you're interested in history, architecture etc), followed by the stature of the club. For instance...

Madrid - Real or Athletico
Seville - Sevilla or Real Betis
Milan - AC or Internazionale
Turin - Juventus or Torino (having said that, Turin's not THAT nice)
Rome - AS Roma
Amsterdam - Ajax
Paris - PSG (make sure they're playing Lyon or Marseille)
Barcelona - Barça or Espanyol
Valencia - Valencia
Marseille - l'OM

etc.

Cracking use of Inter's PROPER name Alan.

Went to Rome last year and loved it but Lazio were away so missed the chance to watch them. Was toying with Turin for a Juve game but heard it isnt a nice city.

Only european game I have been to was a Belgium top flight game a few years back.

Looks like being either Dortmund, Feyenord, Lazio or Madrid.

Anyone been to any lower league clubs abroad?
