Singer Preston storms off TV quiz

Ordinary Boys frontman Samuel Preston has walked out of a recording of BBC Two pop quiz Never Mind the Buzzcocks. The singer, 24, took exception when host Simon Amstell read extracts from an autobiography written by his wife, Big Brother winner Chantelle Houghton.

"Preston just stormed off," said a spokeswoman for the show. "He literally walked out of the building." Speaking to BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat, Preston said: "If that was in any other situation, I would have hit him. I just had to remove myself from the situation, so I just got up and left."

Team captain Bill Bailey picked a member of the audience to take Preston's place for the remainder of the recording. Preston said Chantelle thought his actions were "funny" and "sweet".

In the offending passage from Chantelle's book, Living the Dream, she described a photo shoot in which she wore Marks and Spencer clothes. "I've always loved M&S but it has always been too expensive for me," she wrote, adding that the session made her feel "very posh and upmarket".

The Buzzcocks spokeswoman said: "It's a shame Preston felt he had to leave. "Fans will know Simon loves to banter with his guests. It's the nature of the show - and it's not meant in a mean way."

Preston insisted he was "very much up for it" but thought he was "well within his rights" to leave. Preston and Chantelle met last January in the Celebrity Big Brother house and married eight months later. Houghton, 23, was planted in the show as a fake celebrity but went on to win. She has since starred in her own series, Chantelle: Living the Dream, on digital channel E4.

Preston was already known for his pop-ska band The Ordinary Boys and their single Boys Will Be Boys charted at number three after the show. The singer's brief appearance on Never Mind The Buzzcocks will form part of the new series, which begins on BBC Two on 27 January.

That's a US-standard flounce. He also whined on about his "snotty, public school face" - wait until you hear the interview, he comes across as a right pillock.

Well done, ordinary boy. Married to a girl who is famous for not being famous, and in a band that was famous for having a singer who married a girl who was slightly more famous that him. If he was any more of a non-entity he would implode into negative matter.

I wonder if it would have happened if Mark Lamarr was still presenting the show and said that.

For some reason, I think Lamarr would always get away with alot of things that Amstell won't.

There's something about taking an insult from that little squirty face that I certainly wouldn't like.

Thought the whole point of NMTB was to take the mick out of the people on it.
Preston is giving Brighton a bad name, first he marries Paris Travelodge then gets the arse because people laugh at him because his wife is an idiot, (which I suspect he secretly has worked out for himself anyway)

Muppet.

Why?

He's from Worthing!?! Isn't he?

Also I think I remember reading somewhere that he was a Pompey fan.

Speaking to NME.COM, Preston declared he had no regrets leaving the show.

"I was happy I did it," he said. "I want everyone to see that I've got f***ing principles and my family is more important than my career.

"You can take the piss out of me, fair enough, but if someone took the piss out of my wife when I was in a pub I'd f***ing hit them, and I didn't want to hit someone on telly. So I just had to remove myself from the situation."

Despite a spokesperson for 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks' claiming that Preston had "stormed off...He literally walked out of the building," the Ordinary Boys frontman denied he left in a mood.

"I didn't storm off at all," he explained. "I just calmly walked away. It was quite funny."

However, Preston had some choice words for host Amstell.

"Since Mark Lamarr has left and they've got this guy (Amstell) on it who's just some snotty little posh boy," he said. "people just go on it and they just take this public f***ing stoning - which someone else has written!"

The singer added he didn't expect an apology from Amstell.

He revealed: "He hasn't apologised, I was quite horrible about him as I left, so I don't think I'm gonna get an apology."

Really? Is there a link anywahere? I missed them.

They were in the Hastings Observer where Richie works or worked. No link I am aware of and the paper has long been re-cycled.

If you do read this Richie, can I have the Siouxsie and the Banshees poster you published about 3 months ago.

Cheers

John
