Probably save a few quid by reducing the extraordinary number of parking attendants in the Uni car park.
Swarms of them.

Means nothing unless it's a percentage of income figure. I believe I read somewhere that the cost of running a match at Withdean was 75% of income, and the average Club is 23%.
As the gate is more than three times Withers all the income goes up proportionality, hopefully we are closer to the average as a percentage.

I also can't believe this for a minute. A lot of the costs of running the stadium will be paid whether we have 1 match there a year or 50. When you think about the actual expenditure of Tuesday night, it can't run much beyond paying the staff, paying the electricity bill and buying the right amount of food. You don't need £225,000 (15,000 x £15) to do that.

Paying the staff?. Have you got any idea how many people are employed at the Amex on a matchday? Hundreds and hundreds, maybe even closer to a thousand, they all get a free pie and a drink, as well as wages..I'm afraid poor old Kupiers isn't going to be putting his feet up in the sun for long on what he makes on Tuesday night. I can't help feel a bit sorry for him actually, I bet he feels he has been well and truely shafted, with this game taking place today.

Figure plucked out of thin air more likely

Why's that, staff need paying, players need paying, costs need covering and I expect we are paying Reading as well to come down here. At £15 a ticket a crowd of 15,000 would be £225.000..That does not go far in the world of football these days. I can well believe that figure.

Why wouldn't they have used the game today as Kuipers testimonial ... doesn't make any sense to me

so, if we packed out to 22k he'd get 330000. does that go much further? lets face it, testimonials aren't for the players retirement anymore, they are a bonus and a celebration with the fans for long service. the tuesday has more impact than todays opposition.

and on the maths, staff costs i reckon at about 30k (av £8 + NI 3 hrs for your 1000 staff).

3hours, what you think they turn up at 2 and piss off at 5 like the fans?..Some/most of them are there all day.And what do you think we are paying Reading for coming down, or do you think they are doing it for nothing. Even 10 players at an average of £6k a week is another £60k, + Poyet, Tanno, Oatway, Coaches, Directors etc etc etc.....it's an absolute money train right the way though the club from the top right down to the bottom.

The electricity bill alone must be horrendous (diabolical for an evening game) , wages for stewards , catering , office staff , ticket office and shop staff , some matches with massive police operational support (billed at double rate overtime ?). It all adds up

yep. ok, add another 20k for a 5 hour shift then.

players are fixed costs anyway. if you like, let's say your right, then there's no point to testinominals for players financially anyway.

Policing? some games have seen more police on duty in the ground alone than were present total at Withdean..

Why would they hold a testimonial and limit the capacity to 18,000 if they knew 15,000 were required to break even? They wouldn't, it just doesn't make sense.

There may well be lots of staff there on a matchday, but let's remember only WSL, the North and four blocks of the East are going to be open. There will be less car parking and fewer bus stops operating. It only takes two fans to pay each member of staff for their entire evening's work. Sorry, but I'm just not buying the idea of £225,000 being needed just to get The Amex open on Tuesday.

Completely agree with you.

Re: Chelsea game ahead of testimonial. Testimonial vs Reading was organised before Chelsea asked us to host this friendly. Do you think Michel would want the club and the fans to turn down this game? A game and a day that I personally found a bit special.

Not to mention, Michel got a nice promotion today! Half time chat to the fans and flyers given out? Along with a great game and a great performance? There will be a flood of ticket sales now.

Kevtherev, I do believe you are talking out of your backside!

Yep I could believe that as total club running costs. What do we have 25+ pro's earning between £4000-15000 a week plus an expensive manager, assistants etc must be at least 10-20 other staff, policing costs, travel etc and you only get income every other week so say £325,000 a week. Allowing for lower costs in the summer but with no income from games, gotta be £12mill+ to run a club like ours over a year, bloody expensive toy!!!.
