I agree, and we should unify ourselves under one name.

From West Sussex, I propose we take the name “West”
From East Sussex, we should use the word “Sussex”
Have you considered Wussex?

Elected Mayors with some real power have been place in Manchester and London where they notably have made some major infrastructure improvements.

What a waste of time, resource and money, which is unlikely to provide any benefits to those living in the new Mayoral area.
The thinking is that will save money. We're already seeing some councils sharing computer resources, there will be other savings too. Unfortunately, those savings will mainly be in personnel, so I'm not sure this is entirely good news

That works because of high population density in a geographical area. Brighton is the only major city with a much smaller population. I can’t see how a large council would create an identity to cover the rural and small town divisions in Sussex there are so many competing demands to make it work.

I have always been a proud South Saxon and never recognised (in my head) the division of the County.

However, recent reading has led me to conclude that at some point the South Saxons had two kings at the same time. Unfortunately, I can't recall where I read this! Was anybody else aware of this? There appears to have been "sub-kings" for periods.

However, to put the East / West issue to bed, the traditional residence of the South Saxon kings is believed to have been at Kingsham, once outside the southern walls of Chichester.

I'd happily support a united Sussex. When are we on the streets?
